Default Unusual Drive Shift Interface

Is my better half the only one who thinks the 2023 Lexus drive interface is bizarre? I mean, over-and-down to go forward; over-and-up to in reverse (?), and push-to-park? Strangest UX I've seen in a car, and I've seen some strange ones. She could never get over the key in the floor of my SAAB Turbo.

Mercedes is far worse, with that stalk for the gear shift.

I predict that the push-to-park will result in slow rolling crashes.

I’m getting used to it, but letting anyone else drive this vehicle is concerning to me.

EXACTLY! I cannot imagine one of my kids driving this thing. Or a valet. Go look up Jeep's Monostable shifter that was recalled. It sadly resulted in the death of Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin https://jalopnik.com/anton-yelchins-...lin-1782277820

Your kids will figure it out in about 3 seconds. Or at least mine did.

S'okay - they are not getting close to it, haha! The interface reminds me of Granpa's 56 De Soto.

I prefer the dial type dodge used for a while. Wasted the least space and was quick to use, I had it in my 17 limited truck.

If that's off the table a normal console shifter is preferred IMO

it's like anything new - it takes getting used to. as you mentioned SAAB, i recall you have to put the car in reverse gear before you can pull the key out!

Yeah, that is correct. Lots of fun quirks on that SAAB. That darn thing would have climbed a tree if the bark would have stayed on. Once the boosted turbo kicked in, it was like that scene in the movie 'Vanishing Point.

The only thing I would have preferred is if Park was a position on the gear shifter. Weird mixed metaphor going on there now.

Everybody seems to feel the need to reinvent the gear shift, no idea why that is. The Lexus interface actually comes from the Prius...

Its actually not bad once you get used to it. Up for reverse, down for drive, press the end to park. Makes parking lot maneuvers easy because its right there by your hands.

Don't get me wrong, i would prefer an ordinary old gearshift.

Any reasons? I found it to be fast/accurate and waste little space
