Oh wait.... no caffeine yet. I get what you mean. LOL.
Sounds like his car hates the cold almost as much as me. Lol

If I lived up north I would hibernate under a cover too until all snow is gone. Haha

Tell me about it..... It really sucks for half the country (or however much) that they have to deal with salt over and over and over and over each year.

Winters here are just an annoyance, we may bust out the heavy coats once or twice a season.

I can't say my in-laws who have lived in the upper midwest have thought about salt too much. It was annoying to them when their old cars would rust out but nowadays they really don't give it a second thought.

Because they're so used to it, because that's just how it is up there.

Whenever I'm in Rochester seeing family there are rusted out cars all over the place.

Don't shoot me friend...I just like it when the engine bay is nicely finished. I tried taking the engine cover off my 4Runner V6, turned out I needed tools so I gave up

It could be because I'm originally from California but I really enjoy the winter and I'm really excited for some snow this year. I can't wait to see how our MB does in the snow, from traction control to the AWD system to battery efficiency etc.

I lived in Alexandria and Arlington, Virginia for a combined 2 1/2 years. The hot, humid summers bothered my much more than the winters. Spring and fall there were beautiful. Still I ended up back home in SoCal after not very long.

It can be fun and I think it looks very nice but I hate driving the steel cars in the winter, ironically I have no issue driving the A8s since I know they can't rust. Everything else other than the Jeep stays inside though

I somehow don't have a serious rust issue on the Jeep ether but I also do have a wash subscription I activate every winter and every time I pass by I use the place I use it. Apparently that's enough to stop the salt

Alu also oxidizes - not all alloys are the same (funnily enough - same as steel ). Check out the various mid-engined lotuses.

The difference is when aluminum oxidizes, it doesn't flake like rust does, and it also doesn't allow further penetration of oxygen and moisture. Rust is permeable to both, so you can continue having rust form under rust, deeper and deeper until the original metal is all gone. The aluminum oxide forms a protective skin to prevent further corrosion to the underlying aluminum. Think of it as nature's powdercoating.

Aluminum also oxidizes extremely quickly, so Striker's A8 was probably already as oxidized as it ever will be by the time the first owner took it home.

Again, depends on the alloy. The elise frames literally rot. I don't mind uhh... natural anodizing :P

edit: and now I can't find what I was referencing to save my life.

Since we waxed this car I haven’t really seen it in the sun.

It’s even sparklier. I do think this beats the Lexus’ (both) paint job and that is noooo easy feat. I had been debating until now. If anyone's interested, turn your brightness up to really see it. Oh, also, this is my DD now. Lol.

Exactly correct.

I would need to pay for dry ice cleaning and then put some sort of sealant on it under the underbody panels. That said I do have so many said panels that there is almost no exposure to water anyway. I probably still will have it iced...
