I always found that Chrysler 3.5 mediocre. Loud and not really pleasant.
Its quite cool in this and one of my favorite FWD engines since it points the right way, the Prowler was actually fairly fast. Rated 5.9 for the refresh generation and if you added all the mopar stage kits it went from 250-315hp and is about as fast as an LS460/V8 Charger etc
how ridiculous and overboard a company is willing to go has to be a factor in judging its overall commitment and virtues lol... on that basis i think mercedes is the king:
they even put the 6.0 twin turbo V12 from the SL65 into the regular G-wagen lmao

I love it!
I can do ridiculous and overboard, no problem. Haha

Speaking of the SL65, someone that just moved into my neighborhood has an older V12TT SL65 and it looks so nice. Not sure what year it is or if it is a good or bad model year but it looks like this:
Lots of silliness going on for both those two cars. Haha
They have "character" that's for sure. Lol

Nice, what's your thoughts on it?
I like that one too.
Triple Pointed car syndrome, I'm turning myself in. Lol

Those are just as ridiculous as the Escalade V if you think about it. Ah, the glorious days of old when you could go big, bigger, and biggest with the engine.
95% of buyers would be fine and satisfied with that gen SL550's engine performance including me who is an SL owner---just a add a sharp AMG sport/looks and handling package for sure. But if that wasn't enough, there were not one but two actual, real-deal AMG upgrades which was just great for those who just had to have the most. Who really needs 604hp and 738lb/ft of torque from a ttV12? Nobody. That's the point. Cars like that are gone or disappearing fast and that's what's so depressing.
(Personally I wouldn't want the extra $$$ costs that come with AMG ownership.)

I drive by it everyday and I stare at it everyday. I looked it up and it looks to be a 2005 or 2006. I can’t believe it is that old, it looks really good to me and not dated. I would’ve thought it was newer than that. I looked up the SL through the years and some of the recent ones I don’t love. The 2013 and up SL headlight don’t do anything for me and look kind of generic.

that's sick... mid 2000s mercedes was on an absolute roll, a few quality hiccups here and there but the products themselves were so cool and desirable
also idk if there is a "bad" model year SL65 lol, they all came with basically the exact same engine and transmission
in 2012 (or whenever the next gen came out) there were some minor engine changes and the 5 speed was replaced with the 7, but the numbers and figures are more or less identical
(Personally I wouldn't want the extra $$$ costs that come with AMG ownership.)
that's one of the nice things about AMG cars, apart from extra fuel usage they're not really that much more to keep going than the next model down in hierarchy
an SL65 will be almost identical to an SL600 in terms of what items will commonly need attention and the procedures to fix them... an E55 is basically just a supercharged E500 with a heavy duty diff and beefed up control arms, only you have to buy 2 additional sets of brake pads per change lol
also don't forget the SL65 black series, so there were really three real deal AMG models at once lmao... ahh what a time
I’ve personally witnessed people be shocked by the price for OEM AMG rotors and pads at the dealer. Definitely way more pricey than the brakes on lesser models.

Yeah, but there are some REALLY nasty common issues with all of those V12s. The obvious one is the 24 coil packs, which are only sold in a complete rail with 12. So if one goes bad, you're out over $1000 to replace at least half of them. And at that point, might as well replace them all....
Then of course there are the electrical harnesses, which were made of a "varmint approved" sheathing, and are no longer available. So when they get eaten, you have to get one custom made for $4-6000, and then pay even more than that to have it replaced.
But there's also a single o-ring deep in the bowls of the engine valley. When it hardens and shrinks from exposure to oil and heat, the engine runs rough and misfires. Replacing that 20-cent o-ring requires a process that is just short of a full engine rebuild--you can leave the crank and pistons in, but pretty much everything else has to come off. The one I saw done on youtube (by a former MB master mechanic) was over 60 hours of labor. That's like $15k, before you start adding all the "while you're in there" fixes to the tab.
