Default Mazda CX-60 First Drive

It's a decent effort, but the tech is pretty dated and the driving dynamics "aren't complete" and the whole driving experience is "not unified" according to Thomas. Part of this is probably due to the PHEV setup. He also says the ride is rather stiff and that there seems to be an imbalance between whether it wants to be sporty or more of a cruiser.

So far, even with a RWD-biased platform I don't see much of anything about this that stands out compared to an X3, GLC, Q5, GV70, or even the NX PHEV.

Really though market to enter especially given the shift to EVs. The Model Y is pretty much eating everyone's lunch in this segment.

Mazda will never match any competitor in sales because they're a tiny company, at best they'll near the F-Pace so long as they price it right.

The bigger issue is that for a brand attempting to move upmarket, this doesn't seem to be anywhere near the upmarket competitors in any criteria and will do little to boost Mazda's brand image.

It seem like this PHEV is one heck of a powertrain. Yeah Tomas might prefer inline six petrol or BEV to Hybrid setup but I do see this PHEV as better of two worlds. You get performance of turbo petrol inline six and gas mileage of trubo diesel inline six. If this thing is priced right compared to X3 then there is a chance Mazda could steal few of their sales. Audi Q5 etron is nothing special really, Vovlo S60 is not even in equation cause it's crap. GV70 doesn't even have PHEV option which is a shame because interior is best i class and I'm not familiar with GLC 300e. Compared to NX 450e this thing has much nicer interior especially in Takumi trim with cream seats and cream open pore wood.

I would consider the upcoming CX-70.

More affordable than the German competition and more fun to drive than the NX.

Wish there was a turbo inline 6 x PHEV version.

In 2019 I looked at a CX-5 and put the seat in my normal driving position. Absolutely no rear leg room, not even for kids. The trunk wasn't that big either.

So if the CX-5 was too small what does that make this thing?

Depends on the price and how many they can actually manufacture. They're dead if they plan to price this like the NX or GV70 out the gate, but then again their excuse might be that they want to focus on elevating brand image rather than volume like the Kia Stinger.

Mazda has a small, loyal fanbase of buyers who will buy this.

I must have gotten this confused with the CX-30. I guess any subcompact crossover isn't going to have a backseat for kids. Best to just store a few bags of groceries back there.

This may not be so bad space wise for the average consumer.
