Washed and awaiting clay, got the detailing light in the corner of the frame

Dealer plate holder covers came with it so I put them on for now

New tires, it's no longer possible to buy the OE type tires and the line they were part of is also discontinued. I decided to just go with Walmarts house brand, Douglas instead since they are probably the closest I will be able to get to the OE tires performance wise. They are very compliant and have minimal traction and directness, aka perfectly in line with the originals. Doesn't hurt they cost less as a set than 1 tire for the A8 or LSs.....

Cover plate for both ends

Door closures are cleared and clean now, I'll be doing seal conditioner when I'm waxing it.

You gonna make it a drift king ride or at least a lil' drifting?
Yeah, 1,870 lbs is pretty light, might be able to lighten it up a few more lbs by pulling spare tire, etc.
I don't know what mods are available for this car or worth putting the $$$ in it but just wondering.

Won't find me doing any project cars or bikes anymore because I've always underestimated how much work they need until I'm knee deep in it.

I might, there is actually a decent amount of stuff for these. It wouldn't be too hard to add coil-overs and modify the transaxle diff to not explode. It uses a pressed in pin to hold the spider gears in with no other retention.....you spin the wheels and then hook it up and there is a good risk of boom.

There is a guy who added a turbo to his DOHC and it runs 9.1 in the 1/4, it's hilarious since it's not making crazy power but is just super light.

I really just planned on keeping it stock and taking it to shows though

Nice find. I had hoped to do an MR2 V6 swap or similar project with my son, but unfortunately not going to happen with my work schedule and my son busy with college

A Saturn thread without @mmarshall? Surprising.

Does it actually have 50K miles, or does it have 150K? or 250?

Actual 50k, it sat from 2000-2021 in a detached garage since the owner couldn't drive anymore. Still had its original tires from 1991 on it when I first saw it and all held air right at spec.

It's a time machine from the days when a passenger side mirror was an option! Looking good!

Besides the no-haggle deals and 30-day money-back guarantee, this was one of Saturn's most noted marketing practices. Instead of selling "Packages" and options bundled in groups like most automakers, Saturn allowed you to personally customize a special-order just about any way you wanted it.....color, accessories, and individual options. You could decide if you wanted power windows, power door locks, power mirrors, a second mirror (like JDR's comment), or any number of other options....and order accordingly.

Thanks! Funny enough not only can I find them but brakes for example cost $37 for rotors and pads. Still at 90s pricing in 90s boxes.

Motor mount kit for all 4 OE mounts was $42 shipped, plugs were $.87 each

I would think that would be the secret sauce for their success but I may be naive. Why was the Saturn axxed? Low sales or other?

That's what I was thinking too.

I'm surprised they didn't gift them for you for getting them off the shelf.
Well actually they practically did at those prices, here take 'em, seee yaaa... haha

Ok but I would consider trim levels "packages". "SL", "SL1" and "SL2" has the same effect as bundling some stuff you want with some stuff you don't want. Just some auto makers layer this with trim levels PLUS packages.

It wasn't totally a la carte, at least not when I bought my 2001 SL2. For example, to get cruise control, you had to also buy power windows, door locks, and mirrors. There was something with traction control - I think you had to get the side curtain airbags too or something to that effect. It's been a long time.

They got axed since you could walk into a dealer in 2001 and buy this car with a more curvy interior or a 7th gen civic.....or my 430. It just was not competitive at all anymore. For its year it's actually damn nice, but everyone else improved past it.

The 2001 was the 3Gen version of the S-Series. I can't necessarily vouch for those, but the 1Gen and 2Gen versions were (pretty much) a la carte in the option selection. I myself special-ordered a 2Gen 1999 SL-2.

Be glad, BTW, that you got an S-series. The Ion, which replaced it in the early 2000s, retained the nice plastic body panels, but was otherwise a joke.
