Horrible idea. People are spending TOO MUCH. Give the state a gas tax holiday, just means MORE spending which is gonna just cause more inflation.

Raise the interest rates big time. And you’ll slow spending. No more inflation

If you can’t afford it…downsize your car…or drive less.

so you'd rather poor people just quit their jobs and stay home because they can't afford the gas to get there and back and do their errands, pick up kids, etc. you're all heart.

and increased fuel prices increases the prices for EVERYTHING due to the increased cost of transportation.

They need to find a way to cut their driving or something else out of their life…people are spending TOO much. That is the issue. There was too much money going around. Cutting the gas tax just means that vast majority will just spend that savings on something else.

are you afraid of recessionary times?

if you believe poor people are spending too much, you're the definition of 'privilege'. not continuing this here, we'll just agree to disagree.

But that is exactly what has happened…..in Quebec, they are giving $500 to ANYONE who makes less than $100,000 a year. THAT in itself just fuels the inflation flames. Same with Cali and the gas cards…$800 max per household. TERRIBLE idea.

raise the interest rates….that is the only thing that will cool inflation

Totally absurd lol

And without the gas tax people are paying what they were paying a month ago. Inflation doesn't mean people are spending "too much", lack of understanding of what drives inflation and privilege at play here.

Having gas cost what it cost a month ago is not causing poor people to run out and spend more money.

Giving out money is different than temporarily suspending the gas tax to help people with the temporarily and artificially high cost of fuel.

Stopping the gas tax just means that vast majority of people will just spend that money from the gas savings on something else. Handing out gas cards is just as bad. And handing out $500 is even more terrible. If I remember, you thought economy was doing amazing a while ago….it’s not. It is just being propped up by handing out $$$

Raise the interest rates…spending will slow. But everyone is scared…because nobody knows how to slow their spending

I think the fuel prices probably won't impact spending habits for most Lexus owners given average demographics. For a lot of people, having an extra $5-10 a week is actually meaningful. Could actually feed someone an extra meal.

Sorry, but thats just ridiculous. Most people are not out there spending hand over fist of frivolous stuff, they are just trying to get to work to feed their families. There isn't any way to suspend the gas tax for some people and not others. "People spending too much money" does not cause inflation. The inflation we are seeing now is caused by all of the money the government injected into the economy during COVID.

The economy is still doing amazing, BTW. And they are raising interest rates...

And thats what this is about, Jill is just totally out of touch with the way the vast majority of Americans live their lives. Nobody is going out and buying a TV because they suspended the gas tax.

And they will be. There are like 5 or 6 scheduled rises. You can't raise them in one move.

Did you know that EV owners in Cali will get a gas card?

$9 billion hand out

$5-$10/week saving for every person in the state is how much? The vast majority will just keep on spending
