California has a surplus so it's not going to hurt the budet, and California cannot just raise taxes without putting it on the ballot due to the way our system is setup, voters have to approve taxes hikes and new taxes. There is probably going to be income limits, and I believe they are also limiting it to two cars per family. I do own two ice vehicles, but we rarely drive them. In the last two months I filled up my Lexus only once

Having to pay taxes is a good problem for me...also getting out of them! If you have a good accountant that knows all the loopholes, taxes are a non issue. There are so many places I've travelled to that have low to no income taxes...and I would rather be here and pay more tax
By CA law, over a certain amount any surplus has to be refunded to the taxpayers. My understanding is, for the $400 debit card, there is no income limit, EVs count and the maximum is $800.
If you fill up once a week, that is $15 off for 6 months.
There is a lot of money in CA, by ourselves we are the 4th or 5th largest economy in the world.
IMO, paying a lot of taxes is a great problem because it means you are making money.

Yep! It's the 4th largest economy just behind Brittain. What people don't get is that states that don't have income taxes collect them elsewhere. Texas is an example...when I travel there to our office in San Antonio, there are so many taxes listed as "surcharges". Also my co-workers there pay more for property tax then I do, in fact more than double, even though I paid more for my house!

This is a good metric instead of just tax % it takes into account money earned vs. spent on taxes. Spoiler alert NY is the worst state if you like keeping your money.
Check out the total tax burden by state.
