These cars are anything but boring they are very charming and fun to drive. But by today's standards they are slow and horrible if you get in a wreck. Something you would drive around Jay Leno style.

I love Amsoil don't bother with anything else.

I fail to see why ICE cars are automatically exciting almost none of them have manual transmissions anymore and are filled with electronic nannies. If you're going to do that better to chuck the gas engine completely and get more performance. Look at the EV retrofits they are doing on classic cars, heresy to some but they end up being great cars way way better than original in so many ways.
I Would have never guessed, but if read through your threads in other parts of the forum I probably would have picked it up. Old timer like me! I would have a whole collection of 90's cars sitting in my backyard, except I just don't have the time or energy. That and the wife as an obstacle...

If your looking for a simple commuter that's fun, look at Hyundai or Kia. The Ioniq 5 has a 300 mile range, which is plenty for most. My wife's Ioniq gets about 170 which is more than enough for her commute, my Polestar averages 230 miles, which is way, way more than I need as I usually only use 10 percent per day
There is a lot of Tesla ones near me, I don't know about off brand.....

Sounds cool, I may get one once they are cheap since that would be enough range. How badly does the cold cut it?

I have always said, I would MUCH rather have an EV than a 4 cyl.

In about 3 years the prices will all be coming down. They are great commuters, you can save wear and tear on your ice and save them for weekend/track. Depends, I lose about 10 miles using the heater on cold days. It's possible to lose about 20 miles on very cold days, like near zero. If you keep the battery warm by keeping it plugged in, you'll get better range. The electricity usage is very little keeping it plugged in

I'm the same age as you with the same obstacles if you want to call them that. We joke that if I had the space I would own dozens of cars and be broke. Accurate.

I like 4-cylinder engines in light weight cars they are fun it's a good fit. But for a family sized vehicle nope. When Toyota got rid of the V6 in the RAV4 I totally lost interest.

I used to feel that way about traditional V6s and V8s, but a good turbo in-line-4 (2.0L turbos are quite common nowadays) can have a surprising amount of power......and deliver 4-banger economy when the turbo is not in use. Even the relatively unrefined turbo three-pot in my Encore GX, with max-torque at only 1600 RPM, will scoot out of its own way if needed.....although I usually don't drive like that.

Turbos and the oils that lubricate them are also both much better nowadays than they used to be, leading to longer life.

Its not about the power, its the feel and sound of the powertrain.

This. Although it's similar to what people are saying about EVs all that power but no soul. I adore the inline 6 that is the sweetest engine ever outside of a V12 which I don't have any experience with.

Engineers have done a great job of making a 4-cylinder powerful but I still not crazy about them. I owned a highly boosted Toyota 4 banger it was very fast but refinement not so much.

that is how i feel about EVs... it is all about that smooth powertrain. It would be very hard to go back to something that tries to shift 30 times per minute.
I also like that high whining sound electric motors make on my way to 3s 0-60.

It is not that I dont like the sound other nice petrols make, just not in my car. My buddy has a nice E43 and that thing tries to make a lot of sounds, it sounds a lot of fun on the outside, but when I drive it, all that gear changing is just hilariously bad compared to the smoothness of nice EV powertrain.

Or ... just to use a different pair of cars...

- Tesla Model 3 Performance
- Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Or let's play a different game, you're going for a weekend drive up the coast of california with a detour through the canyons and you can only pick one of the following:

- Polestar 2
- Mazda Miata ND2

Or let's play yet another different game, you're going for a hunting trip in the mountains of colorado and you can only pick one of the following:

- Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo
- Ford Bronco Wildtrak

Do you get the point? As an appliance to get from A to B, those electric cars are probably better...but for having FUN, there isn't an EV I'd take over the Bronco, the Miata, or the Porsche GT cars.
Based on each of these questions I agree 100% each time I would pick the ICE car and besides the Bronco, most aren’t great daily drivers but are great, fun weekend cars that serve that purpose.

However as a daily driver, each one would lose out to the EV for 99% of people.

Yup, you got it...not that the EV's are worse or that they're not good dailys, but in the fun category they can't measure up (yet).

Yeah. My buddies twin scroll inline 6 feels hilariously archaic and slow and unresponsive to my Twin motor electric torque monster. To each his own.

i certainly don't like current gen rx, so awkward (short wheelbase, long overhangs) and overly busy.

the original rx was great to me, totally unique and 'simple'.

I have, know someone (not in my city) that owns one. Not my cup of tea at all. But I don't constantly post how I don't like the car.
no you constantly post how amazing EVs, the companies and the stocks are and berate anyone daring to question the ascendant ones like it's committing heresy.

yet now we read they're not for you, wow.

and you wrote the lc500 is a dinosaur which is pretty funny. if that's true, then these gems must be pre-dinosaurs (fish?).
