So I'm bored with EVs...
Thought of sharing since post kind of resonates ...Few of us met at a BBQ end of last year, we are all car guys in a sense we appreciate cars and here is what the folks drove; we all decided to drive each others cars ( wanted to get away from kids and the wife) ha
Tesla P100D (Pre M4 owner)- the host
Porsche Panamera GTS 2021 I think
Maserati granturismo
Lexus GSF
Toyota Tundra / supercharged
Model Y perf
S class 2018 or so year
We drove around a few back roads ; after an hour or so;
This was the outcome
the most comfortable was the S class; dead quiet; was pretty quick too;
Tesla blew the doors of everyone everyone ; GSF was fun to drive and everyone loved the interior and were surprised how playful it was, coming in close with Maserati.(toss up with GSF) for fun interior wasn't as good but it sounds very nice. (I have a exhaust and Maserati also sounds pretty good)
Porsche Panamera GTS was one car they all picked as they had to chose one car; fun practical etc.
No one cared about the model Y thought it looked weird and was boring to drive and Tundra was a cool truck but not everyones cup of tea.
Tesla Model S didn't get much love either.
I know this does not really prove anything but it was interesting to see everyones comments and observations

The two EVs think are really nice are the new EQS and the New Ionic 5. Such a cute and adorable Hyundai.
best source i could find was worldwide, last year, about 58m vehicles were sold. tesla sold just under 1m. so that's under 2%. hardly a foothold. although in china of course there's many other brands but i think tesla still outsells them by far.
there's also ford, vw, etc., but i don't think the numbers are very large.
tesla apparently doesn't disclose u.s. sales, but in the u.s., a total of 15m vehicles of all kinds were sold. if i had to guess, at MOST tesla sold half of its sales in the u.s. or under 500k or 3% marketshare.
it's a dent, and not insignificant, and it mostly affects the higher end market.

I can 100 percent tell the OP has never driven an EV. I don't know, I have a lot of fun when I hit 0 to 80 faster than most cars can even hit 50, when I leave TTV8's behind in my Polestar, which is just a little bigger than a Corolla. I love how people come up with their world view watching a Youtube video. Damn, that's what I call a real influencer! LOL
The reason I did the video though was because I had watched a bunch of reviews recently and it clicked just how repetitive they are when it's EVs...basic formula:
1) look how fast it goes
2) look at this different styling
3) it has this much range and charges this fast
4) it's pretty good to drive for being so heavy
Done. Every. Single. Time. BORING.
Yes, I have driven a couple EV's but none of the performance versions. Fun is subjective though, it's not all about straight line acceleration IMO and a heavy understeering vehicle isn't as good fun as a nimble one. I've never said EVs are bad vehicles.

So I was watching all the Lucid Air reviews along with various Tesla Plaid videos lately (the Model X just recently came out) and it hit me. Every single review is the same, they accelerate and go "woahhhh", then they talk about how far they'll go...and then the rest is just generic car. Pretty much every single EV out there is the same, a boring appliance on wheels.
So I had a little rant about it...
When are we going to get the enthusiast EV? Where's the LC500 equivalent or the Miata equivalent or the Bronco equivalent (and no, the Hummer EV doesn't count)?

The new design language largely is just really overwrought IMO
Sorry, I don't believe you. It's like making a bold statement that BMW's are boring and break down all the time, and yet I've never owned or driven one. But I'll give you some points on your clickbait title. Definitely gets attention, if I was giving a Doug score, I would give it a 50. No offense
The title isn't clickbait, the video delivers exactly what it says, but it's certainly a controversial opinion lol hell I started the video saying "this will likely upset the EV crowd but I'm not saying EVs are bad" for that very reason, though people only hear what they want to.
What's not to believe? I've done the original Model S 85D but none of the new ones. I haven't owned an electric vehicle though (I currently have an NX200t and Macan GTS)...so sure, I'm not the most informed. Doesn't prevent me from being bored of hearing the same lines about electric cars over and over and not being excited about them at all.

100%. Lexus used to be about elegance and understated luxury for some reason they decided to go with bold and in your face. The design language is aging very badly IMO. I totally understand why you went with the S Class instead and from what I have gathered you'd be all over an electric S Class.

Lexus is doing the big bold thing because that's what everyone else is doing, I'm guessing that's what it's customers want, or at least a large portion of their customers
As I see it, if you are going to complain that BEVs drive like appliances, consider the fact that many (not all) of today's ICE vehicles also do so.
Back in late 60s and early 70s, I could easily tell, sometimes even blindfolded, what make of vehicle I was riding in or driving, simply from the steering-feel and amount and type of road/engine/transmission noise and shift you had....and sometimes, even from how the hardware felt or the sound/feel the doors made when closing. Those days are long gone.

I guess different strokes for different folks... When my friend bought his 1GX, I could not see how someone would want that, just like the 1RX. That feeling didn't change until 2014 which I think was a significant improvement for the 2GX. Even now every time I see the latest GX, esp loaded one, I still think it's a very good choice of family SUV. If I haven't owned, I would get one for sure.
