Be sure to get a 500 not a 600. Lots of parts are no longer made for the 600 which makes maintaining one a shockingly expensive affair.

Its totally not a myth. There are several wiring harnesses that they don't make any more for the 600, but they do for the 500. Those harnesses are common to have to replace because they made them with biodegradable sheathing, and with the 600 you have to have the harnesses made by hand from an outside company, and a full harness will run $8-9,000 or so installed with the labor. The 500s you can still get a new harness from Mercedes. Talk to some folks that have them, its very common. I've done a lot of research into these cars because I have always considered getting one. No way I would get a 600.

Here's one of the companies that makes the harnesses:

Oh I know, but thanks lol. The V8s in the 500s are pretty solid engines. Unlike BMW Mercedes can make a V8 that lasts, and those were relatively simple V8s that went back years and years.. I would NEVERRRR buy a V12 Mercedes. Trivia: The 600 they extended the nose to fit the V12 in there by 2 inches. I want a Silver Arrow but they are very, very expensive now and I'd rather have a cheaper one, almost as desirable. I should have bought one years and years ago.

You don't want a used V12 Mercedes. Parts or no parts available. That V12 engine was fire-breathing but not reliable. Like I said the V8s were pretty solid.

I wasn't aware these R129s had those harnesses like the W140. I fully expect to spend coin keeping her up but this was also built off a W124 chassis that is extremely extremely durable. Used for taxi service overseas, it's pretty solid. I wouldn't want an R129 if it were based off a W140 even though I love those too.

There is an excellent Indy Benz only shop literally 2 minutes from my house. It's like fate, I'm supposed to have one lol.

One of my friends bought a 600 for her husband as a gift. This was probably about 5 years ago. They got rid of it due to the difficulty in just maintaining it and keeping it going. I actually liked the longer front end on the 600, though. I would get a 500 if I were looking. These were my dream car for years.

Same, it still is. I can find a good one with low miles and replaced top for about $20k and it's next on the list but like I said we just dropped a lot of money on this boat. One thing at a time.

Just the hoods of those things, the boss. The current SL I barely pay attention to now. R129 was the best SL by far IMO.

Saw this RHD drive Toyota minivan the other day when we were out of the area. Pretty cool to see. The rear facing seats are interesting

His was the same color as this. For 18 years he put 330k miles on it and was still running well. That 7.3 IDI was like music to my ears. They do not make diesels like that anymore, that's for sure.

I used to pay much more attention years ago, but I have not yet seen another custom trim from the 92-97 gen. They're all Heavy Duty or XLT. Must have been a limited production or just not popular.

Hopefully the person who we sold it to took great care of it. Lots of memories in that truck.
This Diesel truck was on my bucket list for a long time but have no need for one anymore, waited too long.
Definately a keeper if can find clean and cherry like this- and already has a front mounted winch. so nice

I've had a 1 ton chevy with the 6.6L Diesel back in the day- awesome truck but was not very impressed with that engine- eventually had the engine yanked and put a gas engine in it.
Also had a Dodge 3/4 ton with Cummins Turbo Diesel, that's another awesome truck and a keeper.
