Nope, battery packs are in transmission tunnel. RBR has very nice graphic skip to 11:35. If only this car wasn't build from CMA platform like EZZ said range could be way better. For me range is a bit too low, a few yrs most cars will have 400 range min I think I'll hold on to my IS350 for a few yrs.

 

For me the range is fine, my daily commute is 12 miles a day, and occasionally weekend driving would 40 or 50 miles. A few trips to SoCal and that's it. One of the reasons I leased is because there will be much longer range EV's on the market in 3 years

 

I don't think I agree with that point of view. I think the high end cars will offer 400 miles but anything under $70k will mostly be in the 300-350 mile range. If you have a good network, you just don't need to carry around all that added cost and added weight. Doesn't make sense that you drive only 50 miles a day and use 15% of the battery but pay for and carry a huge battery for the unique day you decide to do more than that. I have about 200-250 miles of real world range and its more than plenty. If I road trip, I drive 150-200 miles and take a 15 min bio break and thats enough to get my car for another 150 miles. Honestly, if I wait in a lunch line and just pick up food, I will get a full charge. I've never waited at a Supercharger. Just doesn't happen much in California anymore.

 

I get two free years of Electrify America, which has charging stations with lots of Level 3 chargers all over Northern and SoCal. The reason I would want something with a 300 to 350 mile range is because I do about 3 or 4 trips to SoCal (and back) a year and that would mean only 1 stop for a 30 minute charge. Currently with the 249 range I have in the PoleStar, I would realistically need to make 2 stops...one 30 minute around the Harris Ranch area and one 15 to 20 minute stop when I get into the Arcadia area off of the 210 freeway.

I realize that on a daily basis I am not using that much battery, but its good to have the extra range, and it means I don't have to charge everyday if I don't want to

 

So I was in Socal recently with my IS350 and the day that we drove back we got stuck on hwy 58 due to I5 being closed earlier. In the situation like this it was real scary if I was in EV because it was middle of no where on mountain pass road around 8pm, we actually drove for 5 hrs for roughly 3-4 miles of traffic jam, no rest stops no gas stations for at least 20-30 miles. Long range EV will really save your butt, I saw a few truck drivers gave up and pulled over to take a rest.

 

How much range are you getting with 80-90% charged I assumed 249 is with 100% charged?

 

There is a trip planning map you would use especially for long drives, and it determines your best routes and uses live Google maps data. If there is a particular route that doesn't have chargers and it is beyond the batteries current range, it won't let you take that route

 

I currently charge to 90 percent, and that roughly gives me 210 to 215 real world miles of range. In the case where I take long trip, I would charge to 100 percent. Of course range depends on road conditions, heater/ac usage etc

 

90% has me at ~ 220.
For me it's plenty.
My daily commute is ~ 75 miles.
