Agreed. I only use public charging if it's free (thanks to VW for the free EA charging). otherwise, the sun charges my car at home
I should have a 240v as well as my additional solar panels installed by the summer, so the need for public charging unless I'm traveling or my battery is extremely low won't be necessary, although I really should take advantage since it's free. Right now if you are a non member you would have to pay .43 cents a kWh to use Electrify America (which is still cheaper than gasoline) and if you become a member ($4 a month) it would be .30 cents a kWh. It would only be worth becoming a member if you use public chargers frequently. Thankfully everyone is giving two to three years free charging for the times you really need it, like when you are traveling
Discovered something interesting last night. We took my wife's Ioniq EV out last night, my daughter who is visiting from out of town had taken it earlier in the day so we were down to 61 percent charge coming home. Hyundai gives us free charging with the ChargePoint network, but there was an Electrify America right there so we pulled in to one of their Fast chargers. My EA account is linked to my Polestar, I was curious to see if the charging network would be able to detect if this was not my Polestar. The worst that would happen is it would charge me .43 cents per kWh to my account which is linked to my credit card. It did not and charged for free saving me $4.62 for 10 kWh, or the 15 hours it would have taken to charge at home (23 for full)

Thats pretty funny. You really need to get a level 2 charger at home. I think i can charge 75 kwh battery in 8 hours. Also something to think about is that level 2 is more efficient than the standard wall outlet in terms of the electricity that is lost by heat.

I'm working on it. I'm waiting for Sunrun to install my new electrical panel, then I can add a dedicated 240v circuit. My Polestar already comes with a charging cable with the correct adapter that supports Level 2 sockets, but I will probably buy a seperate Level 2 charger so I don't have to pull the cable out of the trunk when I need to charge

Thats a good investment. I bought a Tesla Wall Charger and never regretted it as its super convenient and comes with a long cable. There are actually extension cables that hook up to it so that i can charge another car clear across the garage. I may just buy one of those if I get another Tesla.

It definitely is. For the Ioniq it would be rare to need Level 2 charging as my wife usually has around 70 percent battery when she gets home and it's fully charged in about 8 hours (it only has a 38 kWh battery). My Polestar has a 77 kWh battery, so I could wait a few days between charging, if I get down to about 60 percent I can charge in about 4 to 5 hours
I believe EA's chargers deliver electricity only. there's really no "handshake" between the car and their chargers that identifies the car connected. you can share your EA account with your wife
Just saw a good review of the Polestar 2 by Raiti’s Rides. Would’ve been nice if he reviewed the performance version.
When you say performance version, do you mean the dual motor 408 HP Polestar? If so, that would be the only version I would buy. Yesterday my wife and I were invited to a friends house in Manteca, which is in the central valley, total trip was over 120 miles with some steep inclines along the way. I was just effortlessly passing slower cars, and the power is not only instant, but controllable. You can do a burst to get around a tight spot, and the moment you let of the excelerator the car slows itself. The only time I hit the brakes is when coming to a complete stop to hold the car (I keep it in creep mode). All the guests that were invited were fascinated by the car and everyone wanted to check it out. I kept getting compliments on how cool it looked.
We left home with 90 percent, when we arrived we were at 69 percent, and when we got near my house we were at 39 percent, so I stopped for 30 minutes at an Electrify America near my home to charge it to 81 percent. I was doing a steady 75 mph, I used a total of maybe 40 kWh for the trip, the best part...it was free. If I would have had to pay the Electrify America rates, it would of been around $17 (non member rate)

Isn’t there a performance pack with better brakes and 20” inch wheels and then you can also pay a little extra to bump hp to 476?
The performance pack adds 20" wheels, Brembo brakes, Ohlin adjustable suspension and a few other things, but no hp boost. The hp boost is a separate software update. Honestly I don't want the bigger tires (more road noise, some range loss), the Brembo's are overkill, although the Ohlin's would have been nice with 22 different settings. I may consider the 476 hp update
i think i saw the ohlins are only manually adjustable in that upgrade? if so, that's ridiculous in today's market.
Yes, that's correct and one of the reasons I didn't get them. That said, they are easy to adjust, takes about 5 minutes per shock. And the range is really good from extremely stiff (ultra track mode) to cushy comfort (22 settings)
Just got a notification of a highly anticipated update for my Polestar, version P1.9. It's supposed to make improvements in One Pedal Drive, drivetrain optimizations to make range improvements, and increased torque output! Look forward to installing it tonight! So far nobody on the Polestar forum has had an issues with the install, which takes roughly an hour and 30 minutes
