Default Good news--- virtually zero Honda turbo problems...

I finally saw my buddy who works service at Honda. He's been there at least a decade mabe 15 years. Interestingly he makes more money in service than sales.

I asked him if the turbo Accords/etc. have any turbo issues.

He said just about zero he's seen, however it does have issues with the high pressure fuel pump he has seen occasionally.

Lord I'll never forget the sounds and pull of a Honda V6 with a manual, but this is good news I guess.

Sounds like your buddy is putting a "Spin" on it.

(just kidding)

Not true with the Si's. I owned a 2018 for about a year. No issues with the turbo itself, but other issues like oil dilution was a bit of problem for those living in areas with colder climates. Very common to leak oil from the valve cover after 30K, and some head gasket leaks. Heat soak was a big issue in the summer, I had to swap out my stock intercooler for a performance IC. I never had any problems, but then again I sold it at 18K and bought a 2010 IS350

My son is coming up on 40,000 miles on his '18 Accord 1.5 turbo without experiencing any issues.

FI isn't a big deal. Subaru has had FI for years and years and always been reliable. Honda's tune is very conservative too.

Subarus blow head gaskets like crazy. Not reliable engines.

Thats pre-2010. They resolved those issues last decade and only the really high strung engines blow the gaskets now. A stock 2.5L turbo is reliable.

I forgot to mention, a lot of those Si's were tuned. The stock clutch is another issue with Si's and would start to slip after going above 23 psi. But oil dilution was an issue, tuned or not tuned

thanks for sharing this info!

i always wondered how the early RDX turbo engines hold up to high miles and i just saw/heard one yesterday as i was walking my dog and it didn't sound healthy.
the newer honda FI engines should be vastly improved. if i'm not mistaken i do recall of some oil consumption issues?

Actually the opposite. Oil dilution issues in at least the very early models, where unburned gasoline gets into the oil.

Fuel dilution was definitely more of an issue with the first 10th Gens, Honda had a recall on them and issued a software update. Even in temperate climates like California, I could smell the fuel when I checked my oil. On my last oil analysis for my 2018 Si, I was about 2 percent away from having oil dilution listed as a problem, so it was still present. I do want to say I wouldn't call it a problem as modern synthetic oils are designed to handle fuel dilution, and the problem comes more from Direct Injection than from turbocharging. Turbo charging puts more pressure on the internals than on the oil
