As I arrived at my Fitness Center today for the daily swim in the indoor pool, I saw an interesting Corolla version, with black trim....a Corolla Apex, something I had not seen before. So, since I had my camera with me (I often don't, for various reasons), I grabbed a shot. Looked quite sport-oriented, especially by Corolla standards, which tends to be a Ho-Hum ordinary compact.
When I got home, I did some research, and apparently it is a Limited-Run model, with only 6000 planned. On the Corolla web-site, they have it classified under SE Apex and XSE Apex....the top-line and most expensive Corollas. The "Apex" trim-name is apparently new this year...I don't remember it in the past.
I see some exotics, too...in this D.C. area, with money, particularly in places like Potomac, Mclean, Great Falls, Tysons, etc.....they are unusual but not rare. I don't always have my camera with me, though.
Many of them sit so low to the ground that, in the world of tall SUVs/Trucks/crossovers that the roads have become today, in comparison, they look like something that has gone part-way through a crusher LOL.
i don't care how they dress it up or what they call it, it's just another corolla with a boring CVT and basic economy 2.0 engine... now find me one of these corolla XRS models and i'll be more excited than seeing any amount of laferraris lol
6 speed manual as the only option and a lovely 8000rpm redline

The reason they dropped that XRS is that few people bought them. Most Corolla buyers don't want (or care about) high-performance options. And most people I know who have Corollas just use them for everyday commuting and shopping. That's why the Apex model I saw was unusual.....even without real hi-po hardware on it, as mostly a trim package. That, and the fact that only 6000 are being built.

well of course most corolla buyers don't, and i'm sure even at the time the corolla buyer had no idea such a model even existed... i also don't think toyota even really did much to advertise and or promote it... but when else can you say that your corolla shares its engine with a lotus exige!
Interesting. I didn't even know this edition exist. Unless you are true Corolla fans, I don't see people want this for its price. The WRX/Civic SI would be my choice if want something in that price/category.
