If only Mercedes could build as sell this same car today, applying modern manufacturing precision when it comes to forming metal, molding plastics, and fabricating other components.
The W124 was the E Class coupe, not an S Class coupe. The W124 chassis was never used for an S Class.

Yeah, brain fart, lol. I had it confused with the W140. Nevertheless, awesome review, awesome car, and awesome rants from Bill.

We'll let it slide this time lol

With that said, I would take a W223 over a W140 any day of the week. The W140 may be built better, but the new car is smoother, quieter, safer, more comfortable, much better equipped...just better in every way.

I dont disagree, but I would take the W140. Just its styling and road presence, it was jaw dropping 30 years ago, and it still is. The W223, I appreciate its mechanical tech, but the rest of the car is just meh.

The 1990s S-Class have more presence then the newer ones. More special. Better built. The newer stuff with the screens do not age as well. But I like how they have had the V12 option for so many years. Something Lexus should have done a long, long time ago. The newest S-Class with the screens is very nice..but lack of buttons, issues with user ability make is a big let down.

You should watch Throttle House's comparison review between the two. Still the best driving and riding car you can buy sound of $300k.

But today, to almost everybody that old S Class is just an old Mercedes.

I don't disagree, its a marvel of technology, but like many modern cars it just doesn't impress me, and a lot of the tech actually irritates me. Most modern cars have lost their soul.

Chilling with one of my green bevies

the S class styling blows away the EQS. Not even comparable.

Saw the new Maybach at Mercedes-Benz Toronto. . I’m not feeling chrome trim all over the windows. The wheels I really like. I think the regular S class is better at least for the looks.

Even the regular S600s always had ugly wheels.

Every S600 came with "dish" wheels from the factory, I always thought they were the ugliest part of the car.
