The new S class interior would pretty much keep me from getting one I find it so odd and ugly, could not imagine spending much time in it. It really looks like one of those demonstrator interiors at audio shops that are very dull, plain but have the big colorful aftermarket audio screen. It is a shame because the rest of the new S class seems pretty nice, I liked the last S class interior though I still liked some older deigns from other brands. I do think the Maybach version with the wood accents looks much better but I still don't like it.

I don't think auto companies listen to their buyers either, they have all pretty much jumped into annoying touch screens/or mouse controllers which is one of the biggest complaints among buyers/drivers, most buyers want physical buttons back and not to have to surf/navigate through annoying screens but automakers don't listen because it is cheaper just to do everything through a screen then have nice high quality physical buttons.
Its simply cost cutting, and they don't care what buyers think, since they are all doing the same thing. Its not like you can get a 7 series instead of the S class if you dont like the screen, since the 7 series will have exact the same garbage. I just hope BMW doesn't get rid of the idrive controller ****, at least its better than the filthy touch screens.

I feel they missed the mark on the Lexus LS interior too - too many different intricate surfaces, lines and designs all over the place (eg: the door)

The 2 horns above the instrument panel also don't do any favors to the interior.

I know this is a Lexus forum and I am sure I will get a lot of heat for this, but I think the new exterior body style S-Class looks much better than the LS500. I initially wasn't a big fan of the tablet style interior but after watching several detailed reviews, I can see the user functionality and user input being worlds ahead of anything Lexus has produced in terms of infotainment systems.

I will never cease to be surprised that we waited forever for a 5th generation LS just to be presented with...that. What a disappointment. Other than an artfully executed front cabin it brings very little else to the table. All things considered I feel that the 2010s were a lost decade for Lexus. I'm hoping their near-term plans bring them back to the forefront. Or perhaps I just need to realize the RX/NX/GX are king and leave it be.

You can fault the LS500 for a lot of things, but in the looks department it has grown on me a ton since its launch, it looks easily better than any sedan in its class. To each their own, but the W223 absolutely pales in comparison.

I don’t love the interior of the LS either but then again I have never seen the upgraded interior with the cut glass. Is that interior a unicorn? I’ve seen a fair amount of LS500’s and have never seen one with that interior.

$20k? Good god, that’s ridiculous. Yeah I’ll never see one if that’s the case.

S-class has a better stance and that's about it in my oppinion. S-class is a limo, chaufeur's car. Not for a second I get a vibe ohh I should be driving this. That's how I feel about new one and one before it. As far the tablet goes it will age really bad, it will age worse than first gen toucshcreen navigation back from twenty years ago. Tablet trend is what I get but I also thnk it's lazy layout and even lazier graphics and presentation. Sure you can do a lots of stuff on it cause you can burry as much as stuff as you want it layers underneath layers. In other words do you need another ipad besides your ipad or laptop to fiddle with while you are driving? No, of course not. But is it cool? Sure is cause its a trend. It has a huge notch on a dash screen in order to track the eyes just so it can give you stereoscopic effect. What for? Just so it can showcase unnecessary technology for the driver. But then luxury is about excess. Yes it is but in term of something actually three dimensional not in terms of software. I'm sure someone will say it's an option or it's better beacuse you have sense of space which you can corelate to reality outside the windscreen and so on. Then we have fingerprint scanner because ... I don't know every gadget has it so why not a car right. I'm not impressed with the TV inside your vehicle because nothing really comands such big display real estate. Like I said they can cram in more things to do but 85% of thise things will be settings you fiddle with one time and that's it. But you have to deal with the screen at night time all the freaking time cause it's there.

The best thing about new S-class is augmented reality. That's the actually driver useful technology that saw the breakthrough finally. Eventually windshields will replace infotainment giant screens inside the car but we are so far away from it as of now.

In Europe they are more common because the car is crazy expensive to begin with so optioning it out is not as expensive as in US.

Good point Vladi. The stance of the LS makes it look worse than it is. Look at the wheel gap in the back compared to the MB. It makes the MB look so much better.

Out of curiosity, what sedan this large says "I should be driving this" to you? I can only think of the Panamera. I think the beauty of the cars in this large luxury sedan class is once you're behind the wheel most of them end up being surprisingly competent to drive. The recent S-class reviews have praised the cars handling which is a bit of a feat considering its stellar ride quality.

I agree. To my mind the look of the new S-class interior can be described in three words: Vulgar and cheap. Cheap the car is definitely not, so if I was in the market for a car of this caliber I´d look elsewhere. But, excuse me for asking as a newcomer to this forum I can´t help wondering about this apparent preccupation with MB. I say that as one who drives a Lexus and a MB.
