It’s astonishing that it is that easy to trick a Tesla. Tesla really needs to better this loophole. A proper weight sensor should easily do the trick.
Like most cars, you can turn off a lot of the safety monitoring features. On my wife's Ioniq you can turn most everything off with easily accessible buttons, and if you are really daring you can even pull the fuses to disable traction/stability control

Fair points. But, you shouldn’t be able to turn off the self driving measures or defeat them in this case.

All of my cars, it’s possible to turn off the traction control. On both my 4Rs I can permanently disable stability and traction if I lock the center differential with the dash mounted control.
The guy should lose his drivers license and be prosecuted for this behavior. Thats more the issue than expecting carmakers to make it impossible for people to do stuff like this

I don't think you can turn off the Tesla AP safety features.
The latest OTA update enables the driver dash camera to both help the driver and hopefully stop the idiots who trick the system.
My understanding the driver image data is not public; it stays with the car.

you don't think they already suspended his license? he blatantly said the 1st time he was caught that he was going to do it again. this is one of those situations where the law hasn't caught up with the technology. I wonder if they could claim he's a danger to himself and others and hold him without bail?

Car finally arrived. Acceleration is something else. Especially being 4000+ ft above sea level, I never really got to experience the true power of any of the ICE cars of my past. Only driven it a few days but I'm happy with the purchase. Gonna put new wheels and suspension on next week.
