Anything with that engine can have the issue, the later years not as severely but the underlaying issue is consistent.

Then why don't we see a bunch of posts in the 4ES forum about it? I have a 4ES with over 200k on it and no issues, my mechanic has never seen a 4ES with engine sludge where hes seen a bunch of 3ES.

Sure, any engine can have oil sludge if you don't change the oil but clearly adjustments were made to the engine as a part of the 02 redesign that largely addressed those issues. Hence my comment that really that issue is only something to be concerned about in a 3ES.

Still an issue but simply not as severe due to a massively improved PCV so that the vapors are not as prone to congealing in the still too small returns and upper areas. I am not disagreeing it's not as common but it's still a thing if you have a typical owner who gets lazy.

What is PCV and what does it do?
