Lexus will reportedly usher in new design language with global EV
It's all a big virtue signal. The goalposts will move. We're not going to have the infrastructure/logistics for EVs for a long time. Plus half of America I would guess does not want one.
I was just disclosing my age because we were talking about groups of people. I have many, many friends whom I think are complete idiots politically, your assumption pertaining to me is incorrect.

Lexus was very competitive in terms of performance in the past. The 2nd gen GS was ahead of the Germans for a bit and the 2nd gen IS350 (which you have) was extremely competitive and quick for its time. Remember the LFA? The ISF? Lets not forgive Lexus for just sitting on its hands for the last 10 years in terms of powertrain development. They've reused the V6 and V8 multiple times and now, they are behind. Toyota's fastest car is really just a BMW. I'm happy they're bringing back the IS500...its a start but they should put their money where their mouth is and develop a hybrid or hydrogen car that can compete with the BEVs. At least that new NX will have the Rav 4 Prime powertrain which is pretty good.
Toyota's biggest concern is reliability and longevity in it's products. That's one of the reason's it's avoided going the downsized turbocharged route. As I mentioned earlier, I had a 2018 Si which was turbocharged. But in order to keep the engine reliable, they had to keep the HP down to 205 at the crank. Even then Civic's now suffer higher than normal engine wear, are notorious for having fuel dilution issues in places where they have colder winters, and suffer from heat soak and oil leaks. People who are tuning these engines for more power are finding bending and blown rods. Premature clutch wear and blown 4th gears have become very common in the Honda CivicX forum. So I totally appreciate that Toyota is sticking to tried and true technology. The IS 500 will probably be the exception of a high performance Lexus that will sell in large numbers, but will probably end up covered up in some enthusiasts garage as a collectors item
My bad, I must have mistaken you for someone else that can't stand EVs.
Here in Norther Cal, Gen Z mainly drive Tesla. We have two high school engineering interns...both come in Tesla's

LOL it almost always boils down to dreaded politics. When he says "half the country", that's basically CA. With NY, that is more than half the population, and both populations have heavily adopted EV's

[QUOTE=Hameed;11084461]I assumed we were talking about EV's. Didn't realize it had anything to do with politics.

Half the country? NY has 20MM citizens, Ca 40MM. The country's population is 330 million. Check your math. Lots of other places exist in this country other than SoCal and New York City area.

They can't afford expensive EVs.
Younger crowd are more accepting of EVs but I don't know one person with an EV or anyone who desires one. I'm 39.

Yes and you also think Tesla is the paragon of absolute perfection, at least it seems like it. Your opinion to me is heavily biased. You never admit any shortcomings, and all cars have them pretty much.
Take one! Do people charge them at work? There were slots for them in Los Angele in newer parking garages when we lived there in 2015 but EVs hardly, hardly were anything close to a dent of a % of ICE cars. That was 6 years ago, but still.

Someone inferred that I only hang around like-minded people. Which is NOT true. Wasn't bringing politics into this.
