Lol reality check, 140k is a verrrry expensive car, maybe not to a rich person. At least when paying for the full amount writing a check. I'm sure the payments on a car like that would be at least $2,500 though I'm sure most are paid for in cash.. Do they lease Teslas?

Oh there's a Benz or two V12 from the past I'd have loved to own and afford.

Most Tesla buyers lease or finance, the only cash is down payment. Leases are especially helpful because they write them off on their taxes. Most wealthy people I know have most of their assets in investments, which include property, stocks, bonds and mutual funds etc.

Yep, you can really avoid most all taxes if you just spend a little time making shell Trusts/companies/LLCs to "own" everything you actually use day to day.

600SL convertible with hard top insert. The grand puba I know you are BIG Lexus guy, but the Achilles heel will always be their lack of V12. At least the Toyota brand offered one. But kudos to Lexus for having a V10

Another reality check...these cars are designed for rich people.
In the grand scheme of things, for the performance and notoriety of the Plaid, $140k isn't very expensive. Thats not even a loaded S580.

I love those cars, but I would buy a SL500. The issue with the 600 is there are a lot of parts that you simply cannot get anymore, wiring harnesses disintegrate and cannot be replaced, all that stuff is still available for the 500.
I was using Autopiot even though I think it is really lacking compared to other cars. It requires you to keep your hands on the yoke but only with a certain amount of pressure. Too much it will disengage and too little you will get a warning. So I had one hand on the yoke and I get an alert to put my hands on the wheel but trying not to put too much weight on it I guess it didn’t register so it disengaged. Fine, I figured I would re-engage but the car wouldn’t let me. It locked me out of Autopilot for the remainder of the trip and basically kept showing a message that because I misused it, it wasn’t going to let me use it the rest of the way. Talk about big brother…
no, it was just sulking after not being treated nicely.

how is autopilot 'fancy' cruise control? to me it just seems like standard adaptive cruise only worse because it uses cameras and not radar.

R129 SL500 is in my future, 2002 the last model year.
I love a V12 and experienced it in the W140 but it’s a nightmare to own and maintain. The SL500 really isn’t that bad for a Mercedes I hear. There’s an Indy Benz shop a mile from my house.

It's fancy cruise because in certain situations, autopilot will take evasive action to move the car in emergency situations. It's almost FSD like if there is a situation where it can save the car and driver. I've used other adaptive cruise functions and to me, Autopilot works far better. I haven't tried Supercruise yet though. I hear that's pretty good too.

They are of course expensive compared to all cars in general, but for what it brings to the table they aren’t expensive compared to other cars of similar performance and cache. That’s my point. You have Hypercar performance in a Plaid.
