Mazda3's top engine is the 2.5T which puts out 250 hp on premium octane and is paired with AWD for a couple of grand more than the new Civic.
IMHO, conservative styling (90's Honda), negligible hp gain (+6) and increased weight gain (~100 lbs) aren't going to help the Civic become the sales leader it once was.
IIRC, the Civic actually sold more than the Corolla in 2020...but this year, there's a lot less Civics to sell (no coupes, no Si model, most manuals discontinued or HTF). The 2016-21 style did resonate well with buyers that they alienated with the previous gen even if a lot of us hated the style.

The 2016-2021 Civic should have sold more than the Corolla since it has an extra body style, e.g. coupe.

Putting "Mazda" and "sales leader" in the same post, oh man.
Mazda wishes it could sell Mazda 3's as a fifth of Civics sold per year. The redesign is boring as beans, but Honda will still sell Civics by the 100K's because it's a Civic.

I could have put the two thoughts in two separate posts but that would have been a waste of my time. Hence, the two thoughts are two separate paragraphs. Anyone with basic English skills would have been able to make that distinction.

You made a claim on how the Mazda 3 had more power than a comparably priced Civic, then made a following claim that the Civic will no longer be a sales leader because of this.
But hey, it's always easier to throw insults, right?

.
I think the Mazda 3 is in its own little place of the segment on its own with the turbo 250hp motor. Will always be a smaller volume model. Corolla got ever so smaller in this go around while the 3 has always be on the smaller size. Civic is what it is for this redesign….it’s a nice size….should have loads of features. Right place right time as the economy will start to heat up.
IMO, Mazda has it wrong with no touch screen….hard to bring a remote control dial to the segment when the whole segment has a touchscreen.

How you interpret a couple of grand more than a new Civic is comparable is beyond anyone.
Buy hey, continue putting your own words and meanings into other people's comments to make yourself feel important.

Agreed. Mazda has always done their own thing. Mazda is a small company so in order to compete they have to differentiate themselves. In this case they're competing as a more upscale alternative to the mainstreams. Case in point, no comparison between the interiors of the Mazda3 and the Civic. The Mazda3 interior is more luxurious and premium feeling than any Civic.
IMHO, the new Civic size is too big. It now is approaching the size of the Accord from a couple of generations back. The Civic used to be the point of entry into the Honda lineup. Where does that leave the point of entry now?

I wonder if the next gen 3 and next gen Corolla meet with the platform. I think Toyota has a part in Mazda now….so maybe in the cards
Honestly if they price it right this will fly off the lots. The Civic name is plated in gold as far as compact cars go and a lot of people who want a small, no bull****, cheap to buy, cheap to own, durable car will like this new styling. I mean look at the competition, this looks pretty tame/generic compared to the Hyundai and Toyota with their polarizing styling. Mazda uppped the price significantly on the 3 and alienated all their customers, hopefully Honda learned that lesson and holds prices down.
so i watched the first post honda intro video and have updated my opinion... i don't care for the exterior but i like some interior details like the vent bar that hides the actal vents. the 'tombstone' screen setup could be worse. if honda has done what it said (more fun, quieter, easy to use) i think it will be a great small car, highly competitive. the elantra and corolla are probably its biggest competitors.

The Cruze was also a good competitor until GM decided to can it.
