Default 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV

The 2024 GMC Hummer EV pickup was revealed back in October, now the SUV variant is here. From roughly the doors forward, it's the same as the blocky pickup. But the back half now has an enclosed cargo area, a full-door tailgate and full-size spare mounted to it.

Besides the tweaked looks, the SUV is physically shorter. The full dimensions haven't been revealed yet, but the wheelbase is 8.9 inches shorter than the truck at 126.7 inches total. The overall length is likely reduced even further, since the tail is much shorter than the truck's with the rear wheels close to the bumper. Both of these changes will greatly improve breakover and departure angles, plus make the vehicle generally more maneuverable on and off road. GMC boasts that with four-wheel-steering, the turning circle is just 35.4 feet, about a foot and a half tighter than the truck.

Powertrains are identical to that of the truck. The EV2 and EV2X get two motors making 625 horsepower. Higher EV3X and Edition 1 trims have three motors making 830 horsepower. Electric range varies between about 250 miles to 300 miles depending on specification. Extremely fast 800-volt, 300-kW DC fast charging is available and included on all but the base trim level. An Extreme Off-Road Package is available on EV2X and above that adds 18-inch wheels with 35-inch mud-terrain tires. You'll also be able to get the ground-clearance-increasing air suspension and four-wheel steering with the famous Crab Mode. Super Cruise will be standard on every GMC Hummer EV.

Pricing and trim levels are nearly identical to the pickup truck, with only the Edition 1 varying. The base model starts at $79,995, and each trim and price is listed below. Prices are listed without the destination charge because that figure has not been revealed yet.
  • EV2: $79,995
  • EV2X: $89,995
  • EV3X: $99,995
  • Edition 1: $105,595 ($110,595 with Extreme Off-Road Package)
The Edition 1 SUVs will be available first with sales starting early next year. The EV2X and EV3X will go on sale that spring, and the base EV2 trims will go on sale in spring 2024. GMC is taking reservations now.

Default More photos and details

GMC has shared more details about its 2024 Hummer EV SUV after its debut during the NCAA Final Four tournament. The SUV which follows the Hummer EV pickup, is smaller, more maneuverable and has a few features the truck doesn’t. GM says it’s meant to strike a balance between off-road capability and on-road driving. GM also says Edition 1 reservations are already sold out.

Compared to the truck, the Hummer SUV has a wheelbase about 9 inches shorter. With four-wheel steering, its turning circle is just 35.4 feet, which GM emphasizes is tighter than that of the Ford Mustang Mach-E (38.1 feet). It’s also less than the Hummer pickup’s 37.1-foot turning circle. The SUV, which, at 196.8 inches long, is 20 inches shorter than the truck overall. It also features a much shorter rear overhang, at 35.5 inches.

While that’s all helpful maneuvering through city traffic or suburban parking lots, it also provides advantages off-road. It has an approach angle of 49.6 degrees, a 49.0-degree departure angle and a 34.4-degree breakover angle. Suspension travel is 13 inches front and rear, with 16 inches of maximum ground clearance thanks to its Extract Mode that temporarily raises the vehicle to get out of tricky terrain. It can ford water 32 inches deep. It also features the same CrabWalk mode as the pickup. Available Ultravision provides 17 cameras, including underbody views to help navigate the trail.

The Hummer SUV benefits from an enclosed cargo area behind the second row of seats. It still features the Infinity Roof with removable panels above the two seating rows to essentially turn the SUV into a convertible. At the rear is a swing-out tailgate that opens wider than the width of the vehicle. A spare tire rides on the tailgate as well. With the rear seats folded, cargo volume peaks at 81.8 cubic feet. Additional hidden storage space is found below the recycled rubber floor mat, which features a design inspired by the moon’s Sea of Tranquility (that's where Apollo 11 landed).

As for technology, the Hummer SUV gets a 13.4-inch infotainment screen, plus a 12.3-inch instrument display in front of the driver. Fourteen cameras come standard, and the aforementioned Ultravision provides a total of 17 cameras, including a surround view. The MyGMC mobile app offers satellite rendered trail maps that can also help manage energy consumption off-road and make sure you have enough juice to make it to a charger when finished. An available Power Station Generator can provide auxiliary power, and can even be used to charge another electric vehicle.

Why is this not going to be out for another 2+ years? This and the Cybertruck have that in common taking forever to be available. CT has at least 500,000 pre orders don't know about the Hummer GM doesn't release such numbers.

Cybertruck will be on a completely new structural battery technology using the 4680 cell. Also, the body structure is made of stainless steel and the factory that will be making this is yet to be built (Austin). I think GM just doesn't have the battery supply to make these things with scale yet.

‘Yup. Spectacular effort by GM. Cyber truck has no chance...will be D.O.A. I wonder if Toyota will even bother with a Tundra EV.

I just don’t think buyers will pay for a Tesla truck over a Ford, Ram, Chevy and in this case the GMC Hummer EV truck.

Lets see. I think it will sell 2x-3x or more than the Hummer.
