Politicians are in it for the $$$ hence forget about tariffs, its one of the main reasons Trump was hated by big corporations.
Please go and take a drive through middle America and then compare it to the boom and development of China since the 1990s. This will only get worse as we completely get rid of the last manufacturing sector still left to some degree.

Let's drop the political talk or this thread is going to get locked.

"Get moving" taking over lithium/nickel/other element reserves, going to war with China over future energy, get in spending competition who spends the most on the reserves left?

The rest of the world is not going to convert to EV any time soon especially when the realities set in, mainly just some Euro countries will try, China is already backing off a little. The US will be at a advantage if it doesn't put all its eggs in forced mass EV's/"green energy", has a wait and see strategy/approach, and continues to give people choices and utilize a combination of power/energy/options especially considering the enormous reserves the US has in oil/NG and the infrastructure already in place to utilize it.

America just has to lead with innovation and move forward. Once that happens, the countries that are allied with the US will follow. You’re right that EVs won’t work...but that is just battery EVs. If the US could convert most of the gas industry to a hydrogen based industry...jobs, manufacturing and all the innovation will follow. Just immagtion the jobs that will be created by a conversion....huge....you'll see an economy like you've never seen before

I have seen some of the destruction to these areas...mainly in Penn
sad story is Tesla and how they went to China...now the UK models are being shipped from China. Just wait till Fremont closes.

I don't know if an all out ban is the answer but EV adoption can greatly decrease carbon footprint in many situations. I've significantly reduced mine for sure and most of Tesla owning friends have also.
Spare me the farce, you're not saving the planet by driving a freaking car. If you're so concerned about your impact on the environment, you gotta make much greater sacrifices in every aspect of your life.

Never claimed I was saving the planet but the switch from fossil fuels is one step in many to help save the planet. Just doing 1 thing isn't going to save the planet but will take a concerted effort on many different fronts. Also, no need to get personal, this is philosophical discussion about the switch to EV.

Saving the planet, or rather environment, isn't going to take an effort, it is going to take some harsh sacrifice, like population control and giving up the western way of life. I say enjoy your Tesla while you can, personal car ownership is soon going to become a lot more expensive.
