They bumped it up from 416hp to 472hp and you think that's "a 14 year old engine with no changes"? Granted it's still the same basic engine, but I think saying it hasn't had any changes in 14 years isn't really fair.

The current iteration of the engine is 471-472 HP, used in the LC, RCF and GSF. It hasnt had any changes in a long time. From C&D:
Quote: This time around, the V-8 produces 472 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque, the same as in the RC F coupe.
I would be very surprised if Lexus could have fit the TTV6 with the 10-speed in the IS, because it wouldn't fit the existing platform in its current state.

Sorry, I misread your post as you were stating that it hadn't changed in 14 years, which wouldn't be correct, but you are correct that it hasn't changed in the past 5 - 6 years.

7 years, the RCF came out as a 2014.
I mean, they could make SOME change to at least give it a little more power.

They would have to do an LSA/LT4 style supercharger to have the same packaging and that would create a 750ish HP sledgehammer, not a bad thing but I doubt they would do that considering the obsession with NA feel, response, and emotion that they put so much effort into that would be lost if they did.
In any case I'm certain RR and other will have these at at least 700hp within a week of release and e85 at 825 with nothing past bolt ons. That will dominate any of the new era AMGs and M cars and any electric that tries to run with them at 100+
NA V8s are still king since you can always bring them up to the same boost pressure as the tiny engines

and yet its the best 5.0 NA V8 on the market. With an exhaust it makes 500 crank hp easily. Maybe some people arent boring engine power number chasers. Be glad Toyota is doing their own thing when the next 63 AMG is going to be a 4 cylinder turbo hybrid. YAWN
These 5.0 F cars will become very desirable later on because they are rare and no one is going to fall in love with these boring *** powertrains that are being legislated into existence.

Is there any other V8 engine you can get in a compact luxury sport sedan for under $70k? No
This motor sounds epic and is extremely reliable. It also differentiates Lexus in a positive way in the marketplace. People will want to experience a V8 before they are extinct and I don’t know many that are better than this one.
Watch this video from Matt Farah - he knows how to drive cars and has experienced all types of engines. He still considers the 5.0 V8 to be one of the best ever made.

I'm interested to see how the Plaid models do at higher speeds. Quarter mile in the high 8s range is pretty fast and the new tri-motor is supposedly very different motor tech that doesn't lose much past 100mph. Also, the Taycan S has a ton of grunt at higher speeds due to the 2 gear tranny.
Also, RCF already has a kit for the V8 and it produces 670hp which isn't bad. It requires ethanol kits to make it more powerful. Its not exactly a new engine

Lets see how well this sells. They will sell more C63 AMGs with the 4 cyl then they will these

I totally agree, but that doesn't mean it can't be tweaked and improved on some level over the many years its been at this spec.
When do you trade your M3 in? (my guess is never).
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they did this...its something...I would just like to see them put a little more effort into it.
