They moved the screen aft, towards the driver, in a previous interior refresh/update.

I actually disagree wholeheartedly. The fact that it has an NA V8 and is more of a cruiser than a road course machine is exactly what I would want. It's not a true F, and that's fine by me. Besides, the 5.0 V8 is a great engine that is not long for this world. Unless you're implying it should have been reserved for a hypothetical "IS F", which is, to date, hypothetical.
Can't satisfy everyone. If a V8 with 471hp is not enough, well...they can move on to other things. Personally I want a V8 in my next GX and I dont care that it is slow and I'm eyeing this IS500 in another 5yrs, if it still exists.

Do I think this is a better car than something like an M340? Yes but I don't believe for a minute that it will come close the the sales of the M340. No way this gets cross shopped with an M3 buyer.
You hit it right on the nose. Lexus knows it's customers. People like me who want to be comfortable, but want some sportiness when we occasionally hit the canyons. If want bone jarring excitement, I'll go to Magic Mountain. My teenage days are long behind me

Thanks guys, last Lexus I sat in was my old GS and that one definitely wouldn't have worked as a touchscreen where it was

Ironically I still use the trackpad because I don't like getting fingerprints on the screen.

I just keep a lintless cloth handy to wipe the screen down. Since I currently have a 2nd Gen 2010 IS350, I've modded my Infotainment with a GROM VLINE VL2, so I pretty much have what I need (Google Maps, Android Auto etc). No touchpad here

As you know, BMW gives you the option to use touchscreen or the idrive controller and I always use the idrive controller because the fingerprints drive me crazy. My wife, however, randomly uses the touchscreen so I automatically see the finger prints and I'm like WTF!

That sounds so familiar lol. My pleasant reminders don't have any effect on her either. I think she knows I'll clean the prints off quickly.

Am I the only one who thinks the screen looks like an afterthought? Almost looks like it should go up and down to get out of the driver's line of sight to me. Or is it not so intrusive in person?

I use the "mouse" in the GS F, and I almost never use the touchscreen in the IS F (it could break and I probably wouldn't even notice) because I only use the maintenance function to track oil/fluid/filter changes and I use a BT adapter with my phone for everything else. Would it be nice to have a clone of my phone's screen? Sure, but I'd probably use it about as much as I use the touchscreen now...Honestly the infotainment stuff is more for my kids than it is for me. I rarely play music when I am alone in the car(s).

Having seen the screen in person and sitting in the drivers seat (and driving as well), it's not intrusive at all. Is it an afterthought? Personally I don't care, Infotainments systems are not that important to me. Give me a decent backup camera screen and a place to display Google maps and I'm happy

Just watched Doug Demuros review and his summary is why did Lexus even bother making this car? Its appeal will be limited to only folks interested in buying a compact sedan with a V8 - that's about it. I can't imagine there are a lot of folks like that.

Other than the glorious V8, everything else about it seems to be so ancient (for a brand new car) - the archaic infotainment system, lack of wireless charging, no charge ports in the rear, really weird 360 camera, slow shifting tranny etc.

But that V8 👍👍🔥

It is an afterthought. The best screens are when they are integrated into the dash. The previous gen IS has a better screen. Same issue here is present in the new GX

Doug Demuro reminds of those spoiled *** whiny complainers I had the displeasure of being around going thru school, college and work. One of those people everyone says "oh God" when they walk in the room

They had to make it a touchscreen and closer to the driver because the mouse and trackpad were so bad. Its literally the worst input mechanism from any manufacturer.
