Future Tundra
See post #285. My 6.2 numbers are spot on for me, but it’s in an aerodynamic car & NOT in an overgrown truck - big difference. Also, I’m sure the transmission gear ratios are very different & the trucks do not have a 6 speed manual.
I never said the trucks are getting 27 mpg - that’s something you created. The point of my comparison is more aerodynamic = better mpg. Trucks are heavier & made for hauling & towing, so naturally, mpgs will be lower. If manufacturers want to increase the fuel mileage on their trucks, they need to stop the foolish shovel nose box on wheels & actually put function into their designs. Oddly, the diesel is way ahead of the gasoline engines in mpg. I would own one, if not for the emissions maintenance nightmare that almost all of them experience now.
draw yourself a truck with a sharper more aerodynamic nose and watch how hideous it will look. Diesels have always been better in gas mpg in trucks, the problem is the very high upfront cost and expensive maintenance that comes along with it. Its a $10k option to go from a gas engine to a diesel engine on these HD trucks. How much gas can $10k buy?

Oh...didn't you were taking about the MPG from 6.2 motor from a Camaro in a truck thread.....I just assumed that it was a truck motor.
DEF fuel, oil changes cost more. Partical filters. Parts are heavy and better built so they are more expensive. There is a fundamental reason why gas engines in trucks are cheaper to live with.

The DEF fluid I would get used to, but still yeah. Someone said diesels are smelly, that's just not true anymore (though I've heard using diesel gas pumps is gross). But I wouldn't want all the EPA crap behind it just waiting to break if it's all so complex and would be a PITA long-term. I know plenty about diesels but I don't know too much about the emissions stuff on these trucks.
For all of this off-topic diesel talk (in a thread for "Future Tundra"...) and rumblings that Toyota intends to introduce a hybrid-diesel to market in the near future on newer TNGA-F vehicles, I have to wonder what presenting this video to US customers meant.
Pre-emptively educating their U.S. customer base? Doesn't seem likely, but stay tuned I figure. As seen with the IS 500 F Sport Performance, Toyota Motor Sales USA seems to favor entering segments, which competitors are abandoning.
