New GM Logo
Do you agree the blue one looks a little more classy?...or does it encroach too much into Ford's Blue Oval?
Blue seems to be a rather popular color for vehicle-logos. Mazda, in the past, had an especially attractive hue of blue in its logo.

One thing surprising is why green is not more
popular. Land Rover is the only brand in the U.S. market I know of that uses it.

To be honest, I've also modified my view somewhat of the new badge. When I first saw it, early in the thread, you're correct......I wasn't exactly doing any back-flips over it. But, given the realities of today's market, as much as some people, particularly Baby-Boomers, want to hold onto the past, this is not, and probably will never again be, the "Mark of Excellence" and "Body by Fisher" GM of the 1960s....with Cadillac as the "Standard of the World". So, why try and keep holding on to the distant past and its badges?

She's a Baby-Boomer herself, although from the latter-part of the generation, not the earlier.
Don't forget, though....by shutting down so many plants (and/or changing the vehicles they produce) she also got GM into the largest, most widespread, and most damaging UAW strike in 50 years....supported at least in part by UNIFOR. The company lost billions from that.
I'm not knocking her character.....she appears to be an honest person (something we often don't see in business), and believes in what she is doing, even if it is disruptive. And she also inherited somewhat of a mess from her predecessors. I'm not necessarily convinced the plant-closings were the best way to go, but she and her managers are convinced....and they don't work for me, but for the stockholders. I just help keep them in business by buying their Buicks LOL.

As I understand it, Mazda means "Wisdom" in Japanese.
The logo itself represents a sea gull.
I was a Mazda customer from the mid-80s through the mid-90s. My first new Mazda (in 1984) did not have any symbol at all.....they simply used the blue "MazDA" spelling. The chrome ring and sea-gull came later.

All this talk of 2D/3D, uppercase/lowercase, and color is great, but a logo should stand on its own as a great design. It is merely a symbol, and whether it's in black and white on a label or receipt, or CG animated for a TV ad, it should appeal to the majority. Again, it's fine, but it could have/should have been excellent!
