They dont come in the right size, but they're not my thing anyways. I have a set of Primacy MXM4 coming to replace them.
Next time you’re buying tires, I have a money saving trick for you! Use coupon code sdls at checkout and you’ll get an error message saying coupon code sdls is not valid, please check the code and try again.
The new tires are in, I can't put the car in to have them put on until Wednesday but I went by just to be sure there was no difference in the sidewall from front to rear and there isn't, they look exactly the same. I'll post pics Wednesday after its all done.
Steve, how come you purchased the AMG version?
Because you like the styling, or because you want a little more sportiness?
Theoretically, the staggered rear wheels' higher unsprung mass won't ride as well as conventional wheels & tires.
However, staggered wheels may be standard across the range?
Because of the styling. The suspension and all is exactly the same whether it has the AMG package or not, and the wheel sizes are the same also unless you get the 18" base wheels which I really didnt like. Everything but the 18s are staggered. So, no reason not to get the AMG package
Why are the tires in the front higher profile than the rear? 245/45 vs 275/40? Seems odd. I think they put the tires on the wrong wheels. either that or they're the wrong size entirely. Seems like it would make more sense to have a 245/40 on the front and a 275/45 on the rear.

I think the sizes are correct. Usually the wider tires will have a lower profile so that their diameter is roughly the same as the other tires.
I thought tire sizes were either metric: width (mm) / sidewall height (mm) / wheel diameter (R) or; SAE: tire diameter (in) x tire width (in) x wheel diameter (in).
For instance:
Metric= 275/65/R20
SAE= 35 x 12.50 x 20

That's how you reach comparative OD with different cross section tires. The 45 means 45% of the cross section (245mm) or 110.25mm. 40 X 275 = 110.0mm. Looking at the tire chart the ODs for the MXM4 are 27.7" for both the 245/45/19 and the 275/40/19. Doing as you suggest would make it look like a truck
Off original topic, but related to wonky staggered tires... The Audi RS3 with Dynamic Package might be the only car I can think of off the top of my head where it's reverse staggered. Wider on the front than the rear.

The sizes are right, like was described earlier the aspect ratios are different because the tire widths are different. 45 series tires have a sidewall that is 45% of their width, so 245mm width the sidewall height would be 110.25mm, 275mm width with a 40 series ratio would be 110mm, so basically the same.

Front 255/30/19
Rear 235/35/19
It's not really new for a vehicle with powered front wheels. As I recall the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, a FWD machine, had 255/45/18 in front and 225/50/18 in back. Strange, but understandable

In Steve's case with his S560, though, he has the AWD option. That spreads the torque (and grip-requirements) out to all four wheels, not just up front....and in 2WD mode, the rear wheels are powered, not the front.
Is this really that big of an issue that it deserves so much time and attention? No bloody wonder the divorce rate is so high. It’s a car with the best tires you can buy on it and your worried about a rim protector designed to protect the more expensive rim? Priorities?

Oh definitely. Didn't know that about the Grand Prix! Thanks for sharing
