i just looked and appears a similarly packaged g80 v6 is similar priced to a bmw 540i which isn't a great thing (for genesis) really.

the g80 is a fabulous car though (and no doubt the sport ups it some too)

I optioned a 540i xDrive with M Sport, 20 inch wheels, and Nappa leather and it's already at $70K. Doesn't even have heated seats, adaptive cruise, etc. Not remotely in the same ballpark as the Genesis.

BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class are still superior? Brand cache of the Germans is better and I don't think there is any disputing that.

Yeah considering a loaded M340 xDrive is in the mid $60Ks, that would be an absolute bargain to get a really well equipped 540 for $70K.

Moving from the spec sheet, it's also nearly impossible to get all the features you want from a BMW/Benz because most of the features are a-la-carte, and most people don't have time to wait for months to custom order a car, so they're left with what dealerships have on their lots.

From what I've been told, apparently cooled seats are very hard to come by on BMW lots lol.

The chip shortage has made all sorts of features hard to come by and some have just been removed. It's sadly looking like it'll be 2023 before I get what I want.

Audi too. I also looked at the S5 Sportback earlier this summer, which in itself is hard to find, but getting one with cooled seats was literally impossible. Required a warm weather package that limits you to boring standard black leather seats an no dealer is stocking that over the quilted sport seats..... Not to mention multiple dealers wanted pretty much $1000 per month on a partially loaded S5 which is BEYOND insane.

As for the G80 pricing, seems to be pretty inline with expectations to me. Honestly, outside of the German's, there really isnt any other competitors in this space. Lexus is long gone and couldnt cut it, Acura never stood a chance, Infiniti is dead, the Volvo is around those prices loaded, Jaguar is on its last breath and just as expensive as the Germans, and the Cadillac also nears 70k. The only three that arent German dont offer as many features and also do not come close to its power in this price range. So what are we asking for here with Genesis? Days of Genesis being a value luxury play is long gone, that was evident when the G70 came out at pretty much the same price as the last generation G80.

Prior to being axed, there was also the Infiniti Q70, which when optioned up was in the mid-70K range for the short wheelbase version. Granted, that had a naturally aspirated V8, but the G80 replaced its NA V8 with the TTV6.

Yet you still took the time to post that pointless statement.

I stand by everything I said, I think it is overpriced and likely won't sell well.

An Mercedes-Benz E450 costs $63k, BMW 540i xDrive costs $62k, and both come with less equipment at that price.
You are comparing a BMW and Mercedes, the top sales/image leaders for decades to a struggling Korean lux brand with nowhere near the brand, image, desirability, or resale. I don't get too hung up on brand/image but lets be real, Genesis is seen as below the Japanese lux brands yet the pricing is not far off the Germans, it has never worked for the Japanese or Koreans to price their lux cars more inline with what the Germans are going for and the Germans often have very attractive leases.

I'm rooting for Genesis, the more competition the better especially when the Japanese lux brands are dumping models/giving up on being full lux competitors but you have to be realistic about those high prices will work out for Genesis products, particularly the new G80.

I mentioned the lease deal issue right in the post you quoted. And you seem to have ignored the equipment point I made- option them similarly and the G80 is several thousand cheaper.

We agree it’s an uphill battle and I seriously doubt Genesis was expecting major sales with this model given its an upstart in a dwindling class. Seems to be more of a play to establish itself as a legitimate luxury maker. It will be interesting to get some insight into their profit numbers a few years from now.

i don't think the g80 is awd, is it? besides that...

just priced it again.

bmw 540i with premium pkg, driver assistance, and msport packages is 66,815 with destination includes.

yes that includes heated seats, adaptive cruise, and a lot more.

don't know what you're looking at. yes awd does add another 3k i think which would still be (just) under 70k. and besides we know most cars like this are leased anyway and bmw often offers very good deals, so yeah, i think the 6 cyl g80 is going to struggle.
