2021 Toyota Mirai
It's going to be difficult for EV lovers to refute them.
Car is slow, cramped, no where to fuel. Fuel is expensive. Good luck getting parts. Questionable in winter are any of them owned by people in cold climates? This car is so undesirable half the price is being subsidized and it still won't sell. It's rare for Toyota to produce a sales dud but they found a way.
Car is mediocre in acceleration as any FCEV presently. Cramped? Have you sat in one vs say a Corolla? Fuel is subsidized by Toyco themselves for 3 years, but I agree can be difficult to get, hence my hesitancy. I live in Cali, so don't care about winters. Any FCeV has been a dud, but is basically a conformance vehicle for Toyco.
CUrious, what car do you drive?

The fact that this car still has the same insane incentives after a year, at a time when all cars have little stock and fly off lots with no discounts, is telling about how (not) well it's selling.
Toyota should just rip out the hydrgoen tanks and shove in a battery. This car is already set up like an EV with the motor. It may only get 100 miles of range like the Mazda MX-30, but at least it'll be more useful of a vehicle that no longer has to rely on a non-existent fueling infrastructure.

I've got some actual experience to contribute as I had a first generation Mirai. I liked it. Here, where we have stations, it can totally work. There are four or five stations local to me, one a minute from our office building, and quite a few others in the broader local area. Assuming hydrogen is available, and that's been admittedly patchy at times, it's really not that different to owning an ICE car. I usually fill all my cars at the same gas stations, and you basically adopt the same principle with a hydrogen car. It's a sub five minute fill, just as it is if you're filling up with regular gas. To some of the comments - the car is really not that slow. In town, it is quick enough off the line. You can disregard the stats. I can **guarantee** that in town and off the line it would beat some of the cars of the members here saying it's slow
. It's certainly no Tesla, but in town it MORE than holds its own - and I have the actual three years experience to say that with confidence. And the Gen 2 car is better all around. These are extremely well built, in Japan, in large part by hand. Folly or not, as a consumer it's ALL about the deal - and Toyota basically gives these away. And on top of the incentives mentioned here, you get 15K of free hydrogen. For a commuter car, it got me HOV access and when you net out the fuel cost, it basically didn't cost anything. I didn't get a Gen 2 Mirai as I don't need car pool access so much these days, but in my market Mirai absolutely works - and it works at largely Toyota's expense.

Whenever you see this car (most likely in pictures only or release promo vids on YouTube) think about how some super executive genious had a brilliant idea to hijack 5GS and create this monstrosity instead. All under the excuse that GS didn't sell. I'm glad this one is killing in sales, best ever selling RWD Toyota sedan in US since 1990. Amazing achievment! We could also add it's the best selling hydrogen RWD sedan Toyota has ever produced!
Man, these are almost being given away at this point.

It's not that high if you don't drive it much and it comes with free fuel, in my case the free it comes with would be enough to last years. Still horridly expensive vs my costs overall but any new car is just an objective waste
It's a fascinating offering...I actually like the concept better (in a science fiction sense) than plain batteries in electric vehicles. Pretty boring in the SF sense to be honest. Now a car that generates water as it uses O2 from the air and H2 fuel...now that's freaking cool! If I had been in CA, I'd have probably bought one and tried it out.
Unfortunately, the problem with this car was that not only would the infrastructure need to be built up (like BEVs), BUT you can't "charge" them in your house either. Well, not to mention the incredibly expensive fuel (although I assume this would scale if it was successful).

Well well well, guess who gave the latest ringing endorsement for the Mirai.

Oh evil practical world, where such cool cars might not flourish
