I have a 2007 sc430 which I love and a volvo with 80,000 miles. I would consider the lexus LS500 to replace my volvo and maybe the LC down the road to replace my sc430. But I do a lot of driving for work relying heavily on the infotainment system. Nearly every review I read trashes the lexus infotainment system in the LS and LC. Considering my needs, this is a deal breaker. Why hasn't Lexus fixed the poor infotainment system?

I guess it depends what you mean by "relying heavily on the infotainment system". What kinds of activities are you doing while driving? If it is just making calls, listening to music, and navigating, I don't think the LS will present any problems. Sure, you might have to get used to the controls, but it should accommodate what you need it to do apart from Android Auto (Apple CarPlay is supported). Also, reviews are not the same thing as your opinion, which is what matters most since it's your money.

As long as the LC and LS you are looking for includes Apple Carplay AND android Auto (certain model years dont) you should be fine. The touchpad also needs some customizing on feedback through the menu option.. I`d still test the system during driving to confirm.
Lexus makes a decent system that doesnt work out of the box, you need to tinker with it and work with its flaws. Step into say a BMW, mercedes etc and those systems are more user friendly out of the box.

Everything works as intended, and the Remote Touchpad has been updated in most 2018 and up Lexus's with it. If you have not tried it out yourself, you have no grounds to call it poor. Basing your opinion on a journalist who spent 15 minutes driving the car and not living with it day to day or customizing it

no heated/cooled seat buttons in a 100K coupe (LC) is lame though.

I find Climate Concierge does a good job of keeping the seats warm or cool depending on what I set the temperature at in the LC. In my GS F, I set the seats to "auto" which does the same thing. I haven't felt the need to manually adjust the seats heating or cooling.
I have previously viewed Lexus to be the apex of luxury and technology when surveying the automotive field. To not have a premier infotainment system in terms of sophistication and ease of use diminishes the brand. Just my opinion.
As with any system, most people can get used to it. I find the remote touch interface difficult while driving because it uses a mouse like cursor, and no matter the sensitivity level, i feel like it's easy to overshoot things, or requires multiple swipes and glances to the screen to get to the selection I want.
The Acura system is slightly better, in that the position you push on its touchpad is the position on the screen, and the menus and icon are laid out effectively for such control.
The move back to touchscreen is coming, and will be in the 2021 LS that would mitigate a lot of the need to use the trackpad. However the design and incorporation of the re-positioned screen leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.
