Seems unclear if this will replace the Grand Cherokee or simply be sold alongside a new JGC.

Probably not surprising. IMO, the JGC simply sells too well to be dropped. You yourself had two of them.

JGC is due for a full redesign I believe next year isn't it?

I was at the Chrysler dealer with the Pacifica (again) today and the JGC still looks good. I had a Jeep Compass loaner with was horrible

That's what I thought, too, until I saw the Wagoneer. But apparently what you said is true...they are going to both be sold together in the same showrooms. The new JGC next year will have 2 row seating to start, and eventually a third row. The body-on-frame Wagoneer will be a larger and (apparently) have the three rows standard....looks to me like it might compete with the Durango, Tahoe, and standard-wheelbase Expedition.

Here's more information from C&D:

LOL.....If you think the Compass is bad now, you should have seen it (if you don't remember) before they spruced up the interior and trim a little. The former one, looks-wise, could have passed as a military vehicle....it also drove like one.

Get rid of the GC nameplate? That would be nuts.

I addressed that in post #4. I couldn't imagine Jeep doing that either.

Probably not. But had the first year of the current GC, the 2011 Overland. Was great at that time, and I didn't personally have any issues to speak of during my ownership. Dynamically and technology wise it's definitely fallen a bit behind vs what we currently have in that garage slot (X5). Just curious to see if FCA can make another giant leap, having had 10+ years to get this one done.

That C pillar back is interesting Almost like the back half of a pickup truck welded with an enclosed top. Not my cup of tea.
