I filled up yesterday at a local Shell station. Regular was $1.89! Costco is probably even lower. The downside is that there's nowhere to go.
I paid $1.79 for Shell gas last week.....but that included a 30-cent discount from my Giant Food bonus-card. But, yes, U.S. gas prices, in general, are currently the lowest they have been in quite a number of years. And it is not just because of low-demand due to the coronavirus crisis. Thanks to more drilling and production here at home (North America) the last few years, we have basically become self-sufficient, and not dependent on the price-fixers at OPEC any more.
Even in the U.S., though, prices can still vary quite a bit. I notice you are in Arizona.....cross the border into California, and I'd bet the monthly rent that, at most stations, you'd be paying substantially more.

It's down for us here, but nothing like it is elsewhere. Chevron is at $2.99 for regular and $3.30 for premium. Costco has premium for $2.66 right now.
But my sister sent me this picture the other day. 99 cents a gallon near her place in Minnesota.
People need to know that cheap gas is not a good thing. This is a sign of an economic catastrophe behind the scenes .
Well, the last thing that hard-pressed people need, right now, is expensive gas. They are having a tough enough time making ends meet....particularly those who are currently out of a job. I'm sure this is welcome news to them.....long with the Federal Stimulus-checks and auto-insurance-refund checks that are on the way.
Of course, many people are spending less for fuel, anyway, simply by not driving. Traffic volume on D.C.-area roads is down to levels I have not seen since I was a kid.

Its mostly due to lack of demand and the collapse of price fixing from OPEC. Not much influence from drilling here in NA.
Got an e-mail this AM from a friend of mine who was out
buying gas for his lawnmower. At Kwik Star (LaCrosse-based
group), 91E0 "recreational" gas with Top Tier detergent now
costs $1.99/gallon, and for 87E10, it runs $1.23/gallon.
Gas locally for me is:
Regular $2.35
Premium $2.55
I'm driving far less. The gas in the Lex has been in the tank now for about 2 months and the car has driven maybe 70 miles/month. The commuter Corolla is driven about 250/month. A grocery loop is about 36 miles round trip so gas is lasting a good spell. I need to get some for the lawnmower.
I went from filling up every nine days to only using one gallon in the last three weeks. Very odd feeling, but at least my car is finally getting a mileage break. Looking forward to driving again and seeing how low prices go.
I never forgot cartel theory from college (it can't work over the long haul). But the one I could never nail down was the Monty Hall Paradox. I did something stupid 2 years ago. Boss' boss was a applied math major, so I said you're probably pretty good with probability, can you explain the Monte Hall Paradox, for some odd reason, I never could get it. Turned beat red and left the room. My boss turns to me and says, "Career limiting move, John." dang

Wow, never thought I would see that again. I still remember filling up my Accord in high school as a teenager at a Chevron in Sacramento, CA. That was the last time I saw 99 cent regular unleaded, about 25 years ago.
I paid 99 cents for 87 octane gas with 10% ethanol. Pure 100% premium gas was $1.89.
My sister filled her IS350 up with 10% ethanol premium gas at Costco last week and it was $1.43 a gallon. The only time I have gotten gas this cheap in my adult life was when the local grocery store’s card got me twenty gallons of 100% pure premium gas for $1.20 a gallon four years ago. I spent a lot on groceries and cleaning supplies to pull that off back then.
I have nowhere to go though. I drive down the street to a local university to hit a few Pokéstops for Pokémon Go every day but that’s about it. Other than that I’ll go short trips up and down the empty highways with my daughter but that’s it. I never expected gas to get so cheap again.
I paid $1.89 at BJ's in Nassau County , NY for 87, in Queens the lowest I have seen is $2.30, however my gas has lasted me much longer than ever as I am only going from work to home and once a week grocery runs.
Although I haven't been to the store in two weeks, I still take the car out every 4-5 days to avoid tires getting a flat spot. Gas may be cheap but tires are not...also part of the reason is I miss driving.
