I understand the 2JZ has a very robust block, and is very reliable in both GE and GTE forms. What I haven't been able to gauge through my research is how long/ how many miles does a boosted built 2JZ motor last? I've been considering building a 2JZ but I wouldn't be too eager to keep rebuilding it every 30k miles
There used to be quite a few first generation SC guys on here that daily drove their boosted cars for years without too much trouble. As long as you use decent quality stuff you should be alright. I was told by a local guy to “Do it once and do it right” and I wouldn’t have any trouble whether it was a 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GTE, or a 2JZ-GE with an NA-T setup.
From what I have seen from my local turbo Supra/SC community over the past decade, it seemed like those cars were always down for something. Seeing most of those guys cars sitting around shops or frequently breaking down year round really deterred me from ever putting a turbo on my SC300. It seemed like the turbo SC guys cut corners due to budget constraints, and the Supra guys were shooting for high horsepower goals and replacing stuff all the time.
