2021 Cadillac Escalade
”Somehow luxury cars” have you driven a high end American pickup lately? They are extremely nice, especially the Ram. They ride great, are very quiet and comfortable, extremely capable and practical. I can see the appeal, certainly in places where people need to haul things and deal with different terrain and still want a comfortable luxurious experience.
I think again your life experience is focused too much on NYC, which is atypical among US cities in many ways. Of course there aren’t many big pickup trucks in NYC, there aren’t many personal vehicles in general. That’s not the case in most other US cities.
Washington, DC is a pretty major city. I see plenty of Pickup trucks. You implied some slight against pickup trucks because they are “strictly a US phenomenon”, well who cares? What difference does that make?

However, in the past GM trucks and SUVs bases on these trucks shared exterior/interior styling and were built out of the same parts bin. Older Yukon and Escalade interiors had the same industrial design as Silverado/Sierra trucks, with a few fake wood and cheap leather bits throw in. Both their trucks and SUVs became much nicer in the past decade, but they also took very different styling direction, with this latest Escalade bearing zero resemblance to the trucks. I think some people would prefer the Escalade interior was still the same as Silverado in the highest possible trim.
LOL I remember GMC C3 as well as Cadillac EXT had a truck...they used the 4 link rear suspension...those were nice interiors not available on the regular trucks...so did Lincoln BW....the whole thing about sophisticated drivetrains only happening now is BS.....four wheel steering, auto 4WD...auto ride on GMC Sierra, full time AWD, Tundra with the first DOHC engines...Toyota had turbos on their trucks...ALL 20+ years ago....all have happened before....PEOPLE DO SOME RESEARCH....otherwise people are just trolling and arguing....back to Escalade, no contractor would ever want the new Cadillac dash in their work truck..makes no sense.

And yeah I don't think any "workers" will be buying Escalades. They mostly drive 2500s around here, or just total junkers. At least it's that way in all the subdivisions that are popping up.
I just don’t see your point Och. Sure many segments of cars have improved a lot, and buyer behavior changes. People are willing to pay for higher end trucks today, and consumers have filled those roles.
Im not sure how any of this reflects poorly on pickup trucks.

they had a huge amount of dash real estate to work with being a truck sized interior and they mismanaged it here. Big missed opportunity.

if you continue to stay locked into to styles and features of the past, you will only continue to be more and more disappointed and unhappy with evolving modern vehicle styles and features.
But, even there, I think there are some limits. I would never want another vehicle with a carburetor, breaker-point ignition, pre-clearcoat paint, drum brakes, or a non-synchronized manual shift.
