Wow. Looking back, you can easily see why this car was the best seller. The center console is just so smart and logically laid out. The screen so perfectly placed. The three separate gauge clusters so cool. With the chrome trim. Integrated speakers in the a pillar (like GM does). Steering wheel wood was just lovely (if not really matching to the rest of the car). Steering wheel buttons not so overly done. A beautiful gated shifter with lovely chrome trim.
Rode lovely. Quiet. Refined. I guess sort of powerful
Anyways. Thought I’d share my thoughts. Leather was meh. Some other stuff too. But overall, nice winner for the time.
Our 2004 still just as quiet as can be. Other than the dash replacement, the interior has held up very well and (knock on wood) still no rattles.
You are so right about having basically everything you would need at your fingertips. No going thru menus to change the temp, fan speed, radio, etc.
Having reviewed that-generation of RX, Jill, I can't really argue with most of your points, though I'm generally not a fan of gated shifters. Yes, the controls, in some ways, were better-done back then, without everything being on video-screens. And it rode quietly and serenely, though not quite as smooth as the ES, which was done on the same platform. That matte-silver paint you see on the center/dash trim and buttons has a tendency to wear thin and allow the plastic color underneath to show through...I'm surprised we don't see more of it, being that the vehicle is now at least 10 years old.

I expected that to be the case, but it really isn't. All of the silver-painted plastic on our '07 was still perfect when we traded it at 165k miles. And trust me, my wife used the "Temp up" button a LOT. So if it was prone to wearing through, it would have for sure.

Good. Glad it held up for you and her. On some vehicles, I've seen some real junk-paint for that silver trim on some vehicles.
For some reason, the center console on that generation RX somehow reminds me of a toilet.
i honestly think that looks great, love the wood, even on doors, although i was definitely 'not a fan' of the silver painted plastic in the middle. Yeah my g90 has some but it's shiny and smooth, not the kind of textured matte stuff lexus uses.

Yeah, I am not the biggest fan of it either. When I first got in an IS before I purchased one, I could swear there was real metal due to how solid it felt. However, it wasn't cold to the touch, and by tapping it, I could tell it was plastic. But yeah... at least it's durable
I think Lexus seems to be on a mission to use less of that stuff in their more recent offerings.
No its not that, I don't think they were particularly beautiful, and the 2020 RX refresh helps the warts of its look a lot with the smoother front end. Has to do with how it drives and feels vs its competitors.

The RX of this generation was like a egg. A very quirky design which was the whole idea. Front end styling was a snoozefest. That type of styling Lexus was heavily criticized for back at that time.

rx wheelbase is shorter than camry's and 4.5" shorter than palisade. no wonder it looks like an egg with horribly huge front/rear overhangs.

A Telluride and a Palisade look weird and awkward too, more in real life than in photos, I think it is done by design...to get you to look at it...boring is out... But they were not around at the time of the 09 RX
