Lexus came out of the go-go, yuppie culture of the Gordon Gecko 1980s, and nothing exemplified luxury and wealth more than the popular TV show Dynasty.

You make an interesting comparison, but I'm not sure I totally agree with it. A number of those shows from the 1980s (and Dynasty was no exception) symbolized greed, wealth, lust, blackmail, and power-struggles. Lexus, on the other hand, was just plain class and refinement. And, even better, the LS400 offered that quality, refinement, and class at a significantly lower price than the Germans did....so it didn't necessarily signify wealth.
Here's my favorite Lexus ad from that era, BTW....with James (Mr. Lexus) Sloyan.

Yeah, I got this years ago from a book about Lexus; The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection. They ended up with a shortlist of names that included Vectre, Verone, Chaparel, Calibre and Alexis. The favourite was Alexis, which was subsequently tweaked to differentiate from the female name and soap opera character.
