I wouldn’t lump the GX460 in this category, at least for interior materials. Having owned both gens, my 2008 GX470 had way better materials than my 2012 GX460. I would agree that the LX interior fits in this category.

I agree that the GX interior was downgraded somewhat in that next generation, but still (IMO at least) was more solid than most other Lexus models. And, underneath the interior, the basic construction of the GX is a rock, like that of the LX.

I drove an X7 yesterday, and honestly...Lexus isn't in the league anymore. That car feels so solid, looks great, interior is great with a few niggles (I will post a review when I get a chance). The chassis feels incredible, so solid and soft riding while still feeling athletic. Feels MORE expensive than it is, it feels like a value...and modern Lexus vehicles just don't feel that way anymore. Compare that X7 to a top line RX350L (and the X7 I drove was not a high spec one) and it simply makes the RX look and feel like...a Toyota.

This sort of vehicle is the future of luxury cars, and Lexus has NOTHING to compete nor does it look like anything is coming. Such a shame.

I would say its 90% as nice riding and as quiet as my LS460L, is nicer inside for the most part, while being much more capable and practical obviously can haul way more stuff and people, AND yet somehow also feels lighter and more athletic?

And it's infotainment system is a million times better than the clusterpluck that Lexus has had for over a decade and can't figure out how to improve.

This is why I've been saying that it is GOOD thing that Toyota based the new Supra on a BMW, as Toyota isn't capable of building anything but disposable econoboxes at this point.

Putting the designer of the LC in charge is great, assuming the guy can lead.
Have you driven the LC? Sure, its looks good on the outside, but that's about the only good thing that it's got going for it. It's drivetrain is horrible, the transmission is slow and constantly hunts for gears, and the engine is just not on par with competition. Remote touch infotainment also doesn't help.

Similarly priced BMW 8 series and AMG GT outsell the LC by fivefold.

I wonder if YOU have driven the LC LOL. It’s excellent, near universally praised by reviewers. The AMG GT and the 8 Series are considerably more than the LC, sure you can get a V6 840 for what an LC costs but it doesn’t have the great V8, the soundtrack or the beautiful styling.

Lexus certainly can build great cars still, they just don’t seem to want to.

Yes, I have driven it at a show, back to back with RC-F, LS500 and whatever else they had. The RC-F is a much, much better drivers car than the LC. The V8 in the RC-F comes to life and really has a beautiful soundtrack. The LC500 is muffled and lethargic.

Not bad.
you're right, nx is selling well still, and gx keeps making the "i'm not dead yet" sales volume
ux,is,ls very small really.

Thanks for sharing your insights here! The RX350L attempts to 'stretch' the RX350 and fails to leave any room in back for storage if 3 rows are used. Both designs are quickly becoming dated relative to the competition. The X7 may very well become the new bench mark. By any chance did you get any impressions of Audi's largest SUV for comparison?

There's another thread going on in Car Chat where most people posting are posting the contrary to what you've said here. The RC F is a great-driving car (I've driven it), but from what I have seen/read, the LC has a better engine sound and more polish. It's off-topic but w/e, felt the need to address this.

Interesting opinions on here! Over the last 4 years or so...I've had a RCF, M550i, 718 GTS. I'm back to driving a LC 500 and RX 450HL if that tells you anything. I missed the comfort of the Lexus vehicles and the service I get at the dealer. The LC 500 might be the best car I've ever owned! The RX 450HL rides so smooth due to the heavier weight from awd, weight from batteries, and Michelin tires. Although I agree...I wish they had a X7 or GLS competitor. A "L" level crossover would be something I would want!

I just absolutely disagree, and of all the reviews Ive ever seen or read of the LC, nobody has described it as "muffled and lethargic". The RC-F is a fun car, but its much raw-er than the LC, and IMHO the LC is a much more enjoyable car. I havent driven an AMG GT but Ive ridden in my friend's and its extremely raw, punishing ride quality, not something I would be interested in at all.

The RX-L doesnt have enough legroom for all 3 rows to be used in general.

I have extensively driven the Q7 which is also very nice but the X7 is a level above.

Which engine did the X7 you drove have? I haven't driven the X7 but I did spend some time checking out both the X7 and X5 when my car was in for service recently. They are both impressive SUV's and you can tell that BMW did their homework on producing luxury vehicles to appeal to consumers in those segments. Even though we don't need anything that big, I may drive an X5 and X7 one of these days. The dealership was offering either one for a test drive when I was waiting for my car.
