Default Nissan Z400 speculation

I can't wait to see what the new Z will look like, if it is coming.
The 350z and 370z never peaked my interest.

It’s Finally Happening! Nissan Spied Working On A New Z Sports Car

BY Michael Gauthier | Posted on October 29, 2019

The Nissan 370Z was introduced over a decade ago, but it appears work has finally begun on a successor.

While there isn’t much to see, spy photographers snapped a test mule on the Nürburgring where it was being benchmarked against the 2020 Toyota GR Supra.

Since the model is still in the early stages of the development, it doesn’t look terribly special as a majority of the body parts and components carryover from the current 370Z. However, engineers are clearly focused on cooling as the front bumper has been equipped with extra air intakes.

Also Read: Nissan Product Planning Boss Says 370Z And GT-R News Is Coming Soon

Virtually nothing is known about the car, but Nissan’s global product planning boss used the Tokyo Motor Show to announce we can expect to hear something about the 370Z and GT-R soon. He didn’t elaborate, but said the models are “at the heart of Nissan and we are actively looking at and working on them.”

While the automaker was coy on specifics, rumors have been flying around for years. Everything should be taken with a grain of salt, but previous reports have suggested the car will be twinned with the next-generation Infiniti Q60. The two models are rumored to share the same platform and engine options. That makes sense and the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G37 Coupe followed a similar strategy.

If the rumors are to be believed, the production model could be called the Z400 and be slightly larger than the current car. It will reportedly be powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces around 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). There have also been rumors about all-wheel drive and a new Nismo variant, but that’s just speculation at this point.

There have also been conflicting reports about whether or not the next-generation Z will be offered as a roadster. The 370Z Roadster was dropped in the United States for 2020 as the company wanted to focus on sales of the coupe.

Nissan should confirm plans for a new Z shortly but, in the meantime, speculation suggests the model could be launched as early as 2021.

I really hope its call 400Z and continues the tradition of the Z coming after the number.

One feature the 370Z had that I liked (although heel-and-toe-shift purists may have frowned on it) is the computer-match REV-shifting for the three-pedal manual transmission. I sampled it, and liked it, on a test-drive. I hope the next model Z keeps it. It eliminates the need to double-clutch or use heel-and-toe methods (both of which I find awkward) to even out the engine/transmission RPMs on shifting and prevent jolting or stress to the driveline. For purists, the device can be disconnected.

this thing will go head to head with the supra. Wonder what Nissan is doing, maybe put the Q60 redline engine in it

I think it will have more to worry about from the new mid-engine C8 than the Supra.

Spot on. The Q50/60 has 300hp and 400hp versions of the 3.0T. Supra has 335hp and the GT4 variant has 429hp. Current Z has 327hp or 350 with the Nismo. So yeah the Z will be aimed at the Supra.

Rumor has it the Nismo variant will have 475 hp and AWD. The very first R35 GT-R had 480 hp and AWD. IMHO, the C8 should be worried about this rumored Nismo variant.

How many of you will buy this car anyways? Everyone was clamoring for the LC and nobody bought it.

Me! I already have a 370Z roadster that will be turning 10 years old in a few months. I've been holding out for the next Z for the last 5 years.

This is good news, more evidence that sports cars aren't dead/dying.

I really hope they don't style it to look anything like the 350Z/370Z, both which are frumpy and have not aged well, they need to spend some money on the interior too, the interior on the 350Z/370Z is cheap and terrible, even Mustangs and Camaro's have nicer interiors. Don't hold back on the performance either, Z car should have 400+hp, please no weak version which means the high hp version you want is going to cost too much. If they styled it like the Z32 with some modern additions I don't think many would complain. The Q60 is a very good looking coupe so I think there is potential with the styling.

I would say the 100K price tag has kept many from buying it who wanted it.

The 350/370Z were supposed to take inspiration from the original Fairlady instead of the 300ZX. Would be nice to see a car inspired that 2+2 design which would not make it compete directly with the C8. Maybe it would be too close to the Q60? That car however is heavy as hell so wouldn't really make a good sports car.
