I get what Hoovey is saying about the 3IS not being developed to support a V8, but the question then becomes - why not?

My theory is since the GS350 was essentially the only option despite the rare and unloved GS450h, and because they never carried over the GS460, that they reserved the 2UR-GSE for the GS instead. The plethora of room between the engine and radiator in the V6 model supported that they intended the V8 which came 3 years later. This allowed them to charge a higher premium than if you had an IS F and GS F side by side with the same engine, no one would buy the latter. Also despite lack of sales, the GS F injected some much needed buzz around the model line. The 4GS almost didn't come to fruition remember, so by making the V8 exclusive to the GS it helps declining model.
