Background: I have a dirt bike and enjoy taking it apart and putting it back together even if nothing is wrong with it. Solely for the sheer pleasure of using mechanical tools and seeing the assembled unit run. Being a dirt bike, the engine is easy to take off the frame and disassemble. I've never done this on a car.
What I want to do: I want to get a used Lexus and take the engine off, at home. I want to take parts of the engine apart and essentially have fun and put it back together, and back into the car.
What exactly I want to do: More precisely, I want to have fun rebuilding everything but the bottom end. So taking the timing chain cover off and putting in a new chain, changing the main crank seal, and other light rebuilding tasks that do not involve taking the pistons off.
What tools I have: Jack, jackstands, lots of garage space, decent tool chest with the tools you'd expect, and have access to an engine hoist/stand. I have plenty of time and patience.
What tools I don't have: Lift.
My question: For those who have experience taking an engine off the frame and lifting it out, which Lexus do you recommend doing this on? I don't care about FWD/RWD. All I care is that disconnecting the engine from the transmission is easy and it's easy to hoist the engine off. This is to be a fun learning experience.
