True, that's a stiff price for a car that size, but no M model from BMW comes cheap. Neither do AMG models from Mercedes. It is a simple fact of life.
It's not really an M model. BMW's use of M550, or M340, pr X3 M40 or M135 isn't a real "M". It's like how Lexus uses F-Sport vs F. It's just branding for a package with mostly styling enhancements.

BMW is phasing out M-Sport trims in favor of this branding, which mostly applies to the larger engine option in any series line.

This isn't true either, Lexus F-Sport isn't comparable to an M550 or M340. Lexus is using the same engines in the F-Sport as their base models. F-sport is more cosmetic and handling stuff. M340 and M550, as well as MB AMG43's, are more tweeners between the base and the true M or AMG lines and have completely different (i.e. more powerful) engines than the base model so it isn't just styling.
Looks ok, but I'm guessing the M135i xDrive with run in the high 50s, which is unacceptable in my book.
Since it won’t be in the u.s. we don’t know what the price would have been, but regardless, i think your ‘book’ was written 2 decades ago what do you consider reasonably priced these days for what you get (new)?
