I know what you mean. It seems like everything says AMG these days.

yea the 53 is pretty badass, but the engine is still more or less just the exact same engine as in the S450, so still not "one man one engine" but that doesn't mean it isn't awesome

if i remember correctly, there actually used to be an SL73 AMG, which used a 7.3 liter V12 that went on to power a little known car called the pagani zonda!

I’m looking at a C43 once my IS lease is up in a couple months. I know it’s a “fake” AMG but I don’t really care. It looks good and it’s pretty powerful for what it is. No different than BMW with their M packages. A friend of mine has a X3 M40i and although not a true M that little SUV flies and it’s pretty badass. Too bad Lexus doesn’t have a IS-F to compete. If they did I would have considered staying with Lexus. I definitely can’t wait to get rid of my IS350, it’s a turd.

once you get used to turbo torque it seems like the 350 takes forever to make power, but once it is making power though it's fantastic... turd seems a bit harsh lol, i think it's a great mix of styling, performance, efficiency, comfort, reliability, and a lovely high rpm sound with a nice linear power delivery

like i said my grievances are very petty, i only wish they'd continue calling it a C450 so i could feel better about having one and the AMG legacy remains untarnished

LOL, fair enough. My grievances are pretty petty as well with the IS, for the rated power it isn't that quick and since it isn't that quick I would have expected better gas mileage as I average 18 mpg. I have never had a BMW, Audit or Mercedes so I am excited about possibly getting a C43 "Fake AMG" but also want to check out the S4 and 340. I would have liked to get a real C63 AMG but I want AWD and they lease terribly and I don't want to own the car as I have no experience with the brand and get tired of cars rather quickly.

It's all about respect. I don't own an AMG, and may never own one. But I respect the badge.

Just because Mercedes Benz calls a C430 AMG an AMG, it has badges, and has very respectable numbers, it is not an AMG. Not only do I not own a C430 AMG, but I can't afford one, so it's not being a snob. It's being real. Just as BMW M sport cars, are not M's. But at least BMW does not "mask" or try to "disguise" such cars. Go to their website, M cars are in their own section.

No 6, no AMG.

I get that not everyone feels the same, but I want to be who I am, not someone else, and I rarely try to pose or fake people out. Excuse me now, the Cos Cob Country club is calling, probably to admit our family into the club, I gotta run

edit they have not decided as they have not confirmed my MBA from **** University. I hope we are not disqualified as I actually got it at The ********** of ***********, but **** seemed more impressive when they interviewed us.

Yeah, it's a shame they don't think of a different name for these mid-level performance models other than just "AMG". Maybe "AMG-line" or "AMG Sport" (which was the old name) would be overselling it less. It's like my friend's 335i - it's not an "M335i", but it has the "Dynamic Handling Package" which still sounds pretty sporty to me, without falsely proclaiming itself to be an M-car.

That being said, BMW is following suit now, with the "M" badge being prepended to almost everything.

I believe in the pecking order. I have a 335i, N54. There is absolutely, positively, nothing, that I can do to it, to make it a M car. I can swap out the suspension, I can spend only $600 and it will have 380 HP at the wheels (hey this would have been good on a 2007 car), I can change the floor mats and put Hello Kitty on the rear deck. It's not an M, and never will be.

Just as a C430 or whatever, will never be AMG. That doesn't make it a bad car, they still have excellent numbers. And it is human nature to wanna be something else, or feel the grass is greener. So if you want to be kind, you can let an M Sport or fake AMG owner feel they have the real thing. What do you lose? You're not looking to talk down at people or act this way or that, right?

But back to the original question, many of us do know what a real AMG is, and what is not.

Absolutely. Would I be opposed to owning a C43 AMG? No. But I would also be fully aware that the real AMG C-class is the one with the hand-built V8.

BTW, I really like the 335i. Seems like a very well-rounded car - quick but also very smooth in all areas. Hopefully you don't actually put Hello Kitty on it.

Saw a C450 AMG today. What is that compared to a C43 or C53?

The C450 is actually very much similar to the C43. They both have 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engines. The C43 basically replaces the C450.

The C53 would have the new inline-six engine.
