But also there’s something interesting in Tesla’s discussion of how it’s shipping the Model 3, as noted in a Reuters report today:
Analysts were also concerned by Tesla’s indication that it is only making cars for China and Europe right now, and expects a gap of about 10,000 vehicles between production and deliveries due to vehicles in transit at the end of the first quarter.
“This is a strong indication that demand in the U.S. for both the mid-range and long-range Model 3 versions has largely been exhausted, and the company is still working through the estimated ~6.8k of unsold Model 3 inventory,” Cowen analysts said.
Oh, shares of Tesla are down four percent, if you’re curious.
The car just went on sale... how can their be a plateau? My neighborhood is full of brand new ones, most of which don't even have their plates yet.
Model 3s actually went on "sale" over two years ago. For a number of reasons, it has simply taken this long for the company to get them into production and delivered.
while they are expanding markets, i am not sure who exactly will they be selling those 10k/week Model 3's to. There is no such large market, and their current China sales for model S/X are tiny.
While 35k Model 3 will expand sales, by that time they will lose more of the credits and it is also not profitable for Tesla.
I am sure they will sell well, just not 10k/week well.
two factors, first of all fed credit went from 7500 to 3750, that has noticeable effect. and also that most buyers now are the ones waiting for the 35k model

How is your Model 3 doing, Henry? Are you satisfied with it?
It's fun to watch the doomsday predictions continuously being wrong, remember when Tesla was not going to make it into 2019?
One of the reasons they did make it this far is probably that Musk was forced to give up some of his power. Had he not, it would have been anybody's guess as to what would have happened.

Similar things were said about Steve Jobs before he was forced out. Apple nearly died, when Jobs came back he revolutionized the tech sector. No way Tesla gets this far without Musk he designs and engineers a whole pile of stuff himself, for starters.
It's en vogue to hate on Tesla people fear new things I guess.

Not in vogue at all. And it's not a case of people being "haters". Most of us have better things to do with our time than simply sit around and dream up ways to hate people. Whatever misfortunes he has, he brought most of them on himself. One reaps what one sows.
Now, that doesn't mean that he can't undo them, either. Each morning brings new opportunities to review one's past, and, if possible, to make any necessary changes....that goes for all of us.
In the meantime, the thread-topic (Model 3)...there's no question that it has been a success, though it took long enough to get it into production and start filling orders.

Model 3 sales numbers are the worst spin off in auto industry right now. They've been collecting sales for over two years and then they just went into delivery mode when good Tesla PR people spin that into super-sales/super-demand bandwagon.
