How's this for a nice set of gauges?

That first pic you posted makes me reminisce about the days in late 80's to early 90's 4Runners- the ones that you could remove the tops off the back. Loved those trucks and the simplicity of the entire layout including the gauges.

I always thought the Aston Martin DB9 had nice gauges, it had one of the nicest interior designs too, same with the Continental GT and Audi A8, the original Audi TT had some nice simple gauges.

Actually, for the gauge-design, the correct term is like a chronometer. I agree that it was attractive.....it was one pf several reasons why I myself bought an IS300 in 2001, as I outlined in the original post of the thread. The only fly in the ointment was that the overly-small voltmeter and vacuum/MPG circles, in the middle, especially at night with the reddish-orange lighting, were hard to read at a glance.

An old Saturn has the best set of analog gauges ever produced? Seriously?
I'm still a fan of the old, basic optitron gauges Lexus pioneered in the early 90s and other companies copied. Cool and high tech looking without being gimmicky and hard to read...I also loved their placement, upright and perfectly within the steering wheel, just the right angle...

Some of my favorite gauges were from our old W220 S500. So uniquely Mercedes, incredibly crisp and clear. Floating needle design would partially block the screen in the cluster which I always thought of as a "special" German/Mercedes quirk.

These were known as the dyslexic tachometer design. Never cared for it and Merc eventually dumped the backward look.

I always liked the look of my 1992 SC300 gauges, big, clear analouge tach and speedo. The floating numbers and dials were pretty damn cool for 1992, even today it looks nice(much better than the gauge clusters in newer model Cadillacs IMO)
Also liked the late 90's Cadillac Seville gauge cluster, obviously a rip off of the Lexus design, still it looks better than the crap they've put in late model Cadillacs IMO
As far as the latest/greatest, Audi's new "screen" system where you can reconfigure it to gauges, a map, a combo of both is pretty damn impressive.
For vintage cars, you can't get more ridiculous/awesome than a 1960 Chrysler
