Genesis changes its mind on retail plans
I have no problem with dealers or going to the dealer. I go four times a year (I am responsible for two cars so the visits are double). Both oil changes are done within in 39 minutes at Toyota (closer to 1hr) by the time I park and check in. Then I get a free coffee and some snacks. The way I look at going to the dealer for service is that for me it is an escape from my real world and day to day life. I get to see some new cars, I get to talk to some people who work there that I have know for 25+ years, and if I want I get to drive any demo car for fun. Although this may not work for everyone, it works for me. My second visit for each car is usually a maintenance visit so it takes a bit longer as it is closer to two hours, on those days I usually get a shuttle to my parents and I stop by for lunch etc etc. As for work, I refuse to do any work while I go, I get to make that decision as we own most of the company and I am the boss. That said, I go usually on Wednesday’s which I usually take off for most weeks of the year.
While I definitely agree that Genesis needs a network of dealers as opposed to using Hyundai dealers to really compete, I must say it's kind of messed up to berate people who don't have 50-70k to spend on a car. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a person buying a cheap new Hyundai.
The Genesis brand needs to excel at offering exactly what you can get at a Lexus, MB, or any other luxury dealer. The current Hyundai network is not going to succeed in doing that. The Genesis dealer in Square One Mississauga is a nice place to be, it has a theme, nice presentation, the cars are all powered on inside minus the motor of course. They have nice color palette builders on the walls. Good cafe and nice sales staff. There is nothing to muddy the waters that you are in a presumed luxury dealer.

not sure why you keep inflating toyota's value - it's certainly the highest valued automaker but it's not even close to the top 10 of valued companies. at #10, Johnson and Johnson is about 50% bigger than toyota. apple at the top is 4x Toyota's value.

There are many ways to judge brands. I am speaking more of brand equity. Not just financially.

second link shows tesla beating lexus in branding.

anyway, no question that toyota has a DESERVED excellent branding reputation and value.
of course that's not what this thread is about though.
CTJill, I agree with everything you're saying and don't equate Genesis on the same level as Lexus, not even really close. All I meant was seeing the "Gosh, I don't want to see poor people buying cheap cars" comments was a little off putting.
