Question New Here....Have a question about Navigation

Hello Everyone!!
My name is Andrea I am new to Club Lexus. I currently own a 2008 Lexus IS250. TRD Spec, 6 speed Manual. Love Love Love my beast! Of course, there is plenty of work I can do to improve performance, its a steady process, any/all advise is definitely appreciated. I am curious on how to uninstall/remove the file path/software for the navigation system. I think this is causing a block on the ability for me to use the DVD player. I can hear the sound but I am unable to press the "Image" button in order for the screen to display the video. Previous to this glitch, the DVD would play with no problem whether the car was parked or in motion. There is more I can elaborate on, as far as the touch screen goes, but ill save that for another time...

Gracias!!!

There is supposed to be a block out to prevent watching DVD while driving. No picture if car is not in "park".

Hola OldCajun!
Thank you for your reply. When I originally purchased the car, up until about I'll say 6 months ago, the DVD would work in both conditions. The display would play the movie when the car was in park and also when the car was driving. For some reason lately it will not play at all, whether parked or driving. The screen has had a lot of glitches. It stays on, on a white screen asking for a code whether the car is on or off. Only way to stop this is to disconnect the battery. At times the touch screen doesn't work when promoted. Other times it seems as if there is something pressing upon the screen and it will automatically change radio stations or mode without you actually doing so.

Old cajun is right. You can thank the lawyers (and careless drivers) for that. That's a safety program designed to keep people from driving around with their cabezas buried in the NAV-screen instead of on the road where it belongs.
Hola mmarshal1
Is there a way to disable the navigation feature? I never use it nor do I want to start, too much tracking for my taste lol . The display always shoots me an error code: "File Path Does Not Exist" is there a way to remove/uninstall the software that has the mechanism attempting to find/use? I just want to remove anything that has to do with the navigation system. I know the option and feature will remain, i just want to clear the present file and/or software part if possible.

I know on the newer cars both the parking brake has to be engaged and the car has to be in park, maybe there is a glitch caused by the vehicle not registering these operations happening?

Oddly, the button to say Thanks is missing on General Forum threads. It will be at the bottom corner of a post like this.

To answer your original question, it almost seems like your car has an aftermarket Nav Bypass kit installed, and that is now acting up. If you bought the car used, you could try asking the previous owner for details. Or you could try opening up the dashboard and checking behind the Nav unit for aftermarket cables etc. Good luck!

Thanks for the thought, but, here, in CL, the formal "Thanks" feature is not part of the Car Chat Forum. At one time, it was not only here, but also included in CL's Clubhouse/Debate forums (which usually deal with non-automotive subjects). But the Administrator and moderators have, since, limited it to some other forums. You can also thank someone two other ways....here on the public screen, or privately, through the PM (private-message) system.
