2019 Jeep Cherokee
We just had one of these as a rental car in Maui. Despite the less then stellar styling (which looks to be fixed on this update), this thing is spacious and handled pretty well for an economy SUV. The engine sounded corse and didn't really accelerate much, but it surpassed my low expectations for a rental car. With all that said, if your renting an small SUV, this is a good choice.

Biggest problem with the old Cherokee (besides the insect-headlights) was the ZF-designed 9-speed automatic, which, unlike the newer 9-speed co-developed by GM and Ford, had a number of teething and engineering problems. Time will tell if the latest unit in this new Cherokee is improved.

Slowly but surely the Jeep brand is elevating. The lower wrung models are starting to get those upscale design cues, and we know a Grand Wagoneer / Grand Commander 7/8 row is on it's way. FCA is always getting interested parties in purchasing Jeep which is often the most successful of their portfolio (Dodge, Ram, Chrysler).

The (former) Commander was dropped several years ago, and the Wagoneer long before that.

The 'Grand Cherokee' wont be touched, it's a mainstay, and almost as iconic as the Wrangler. The names that keep coming up for a three row Jeep SUV are Wagoner, Grand Wagoner, and Grand Commander. The latter being the most recent one I've heard.

but a big improvement nonetheless.
