i am looking at an es 350 for sale by a toyota dealership and the ad states lexus certified
is this possible?
i thought a lexus cpo car can only be sold by a lexus dealership

I would think the only way that is possible is that someone bought a Lexus CPO, and then traded it into the Toyota dealer, and the CPO warranty is transferrable? But that's just a guess. I don't see how a Toyota dealer can CPO a Lexus (unless it's a dealer "CPO", and not factory). You better look at the fine print carefully.
that is my thoughts
carfax does not indicate prior lexus cpo
here is how it is advertised

false advertising?

I think that's possible because warraties follow new owners. I traded in a Lexus RX CPO vehicle at Audi dealer for SQ5. The car was
sold and CPO certificate and information was given to the purchaser who was happy for sure.

just because it was previously sold as cpo means nothing about it being sold now. if someone bought a nice cpo vehicle some time back, they may have treated it horrendously since. it would be like calling a used car "formerly new" - while true, it's irrelevant. caveat emptor. and remember car dealers will say anything. if it's not in writing and verifiable and relevant, take it with a grain of salt.
Should be false advertising. A Toyota dealership cannot Lexus certify a vehicle. What they should be saying is they are either offering their own dealership warranty, or it carries the remaining stock Lexus warranty. Do not trust any dealership telling you otherwise. Personally, I avoid any dealership that advertises lies. It is a sign of poor integrity and such people should not be rewarded for trying to rip off the innocent public.

It's not irrelevant if the CPO warranty is transferable. If the buyer now still has a remaining CPO warranty that they can take advantage of where the factory warranty is expired, it's totally relevant. OP needs to call the dealer and get the details instead of playing "what if?"
ANYWAY, this dealer is clearly just using this as bait. If you look at any other make this dealer is offering, they all have the respective manufacturer's certified label on them. There is no way this dealer is selling certified used vehicles from every single manufacturer exclusively.
OP - this car you are looking at is NOT L-Certified.
