Does anyone use special driving shoes?
I see Puma has a whole line of them.
I like the New Balance Minimus 10 V1. It provides a good feel of the pedals for me on my 2014 LS460 AWD.

 

I normally wear a Men's Size-15 (you are probably familiar with my big-foot comments on the accelerator/brake-pedals if you regularly read my auto reviews). Special driving shoes, for me, would probably be quite expensive....finding size 15s alone is difficult in many stores. I find the easiest (and cheapest) thing for me to do is just go to Wal-mart's and buy their fabric, rubber-soled slip-ons. Their largest size for that particular shoe is marked a "13", but I find that my feet can fit into them without any problems, especially after a few minutes to ease the stiffness of a brand-new shoe. They cost only $7.99, so they are an up-front bargain...but usually last only a few months before the soft rubber soles wear out. Those soft rubber soles, though, provide good non-slip traction for gripping surfaces.

 

No high heels. If I need to wear that day, I always bright a pair of flats to wear while driving, then I while change when I get to my destination.

 

You are probably wise to avoid high heels. Many women (not all), especially after years of wearing them, find that their ankle and foot muscles/tendons/ligaments are damaged from the unnatural heel-up stance and pressure on the toes and ball of the foot.

No matter what I am wearing, unless it is work boots, I almost always drive barefoot. I know it is illegal in many states (although i can't see why), but I feel like I have so much more control over what my car is doing and how much input I give the pedal if i can feel it directly under my foot.

Of course that changes at the track, but I haven't been racing in ages, so...there's that.

 

Try driving with just your socks on. It will probably satisfy at least the letter of the law......and still allow the tactile-sensations that you want.

 

I think the whole "illegal to drive barefoot" thing is actually an old wives tale...

 

Close. In many states, it's not specifically forbidden, but strongly frowned upon by the authorities. In other words, if a cop catches you doing something else, and he or she notices that you are also barefoot as well, you will probably be more likely to get a ticket for the first offense instead of being let go with a warning.

 

Holy cow... I never know illegal to drive with bare foot, I has been doing illegal ***** for decade (not every day, only for long distance driving).

 

I would need to see some proof of that. I have a feeling when you look you will see there are no specific laws that say you cannot drive barefoot. If cops don't like it or it makes it less likely for them to let you off is a question that's hard to answer, but whether or not it's "illegal" or not we can answer.
